I am tempted to buy some Wilson magazines for my new Kimber CDP (aluminum frame) however I do not like the fact it sticks out of the frame for carry purposes.

Sooo.. does anyone have any experience with Kimber Kim-Pro magazines? These seem to have a skirt from what I can tell - so will these be safe and not gouge my frame?

Thanks!
Tristan

The Kim-Pro Tac Mags are the PERFECT choice for your CDP! I use 'em in my Pro CDP and they are tops. You will NOT experience the gouging problems with these mags. The Kimber mags that gouge our frames are the Kimber OEM aftermarket accessory 8-round mags with the split follower design - believe me, I know exactly which which mag causes that...

I'll make one strong suggestion - if your gun was designed to hold 7 rounds in the mag, don't try to use an 8 round mag and expect it to never misfeed, not even the Kim-Pro 8 round mags. I Use the 7 round mag - even keep it fully loaded indefinitely, and I never have misfeed problems, and I mean never,

Fit and finish of these mags is impeccable as well. If you have a Compact CDP by chance, good luck finding the 7 round Compact version of the Kim-Pro mags - I've been looking for my wife's CDP for over a year now only to find them constantly sold out and on back order, even at the Kimber Pro Shop...

I had an original series Kimber Ultra Carry for which I used the Pro-Tac mags. They have the rounded plastic followers that will not gouge alloy frames. Function was perfect, and definitely no gouging. I recommend them.

Highly recommend the KimPro mags

I have had zero FTF over the 500 rounds I have put through my CDP Pro with 8 round KimPro mags. I have not personally seen any issue with the performance of these magazines when loaded with 8 rounds, including chambering a round and reloading to get to the 8+1 capacity for CCW.

Regardless if you choose to go with the 7 or 8 round version, IMHO, you'll enjoy their performance (At $20/ 8-round mag, it is hard to do better!)

Cheers,
Pk

tmilnthorp,
Thanks for the heads-up on Sportsmans's Guide. Unfortunately I'll tell ya what I read from that ad though. They're calling the 7 round version the "compact" version, but I bet it's not. The Tac-Mag's come in three versions:

- 8 round full size
- 7 round full size
- 7 round Compact size <-- this one ONLY fits in the Kimber Compact gun versions and is the one that's been so hard to find.

Kimber was supposed to start shipping that Compact version about a year ago. I was calling their Corp Headquarters where their Pro Shop resides every month to inquire "are they in yet", only to be constantly met with "try next month". I dunno'' if that meant they're selling fast, or whether they were having problems with final product, or what. Just because of the fact they released the full size mags well over a year earlier makes me think they could be having problems with functionality.

Been a few months now - I suppose I should start looking again... ;)

I bought two Kim-Pro Tac mags at the last gun show about 3 months ago. An 8 round full size, and a 7 round compact.

The 7 round compact has done fine in my CDP II, but the two Wilsons I use do better. The Kimber mag sometimes has a bit of trouble with the top round. If you let the slide forward with your hand it will nosedive some rounds whereas the Wilsons will not. If you drop the slide on the top round like you are supposed to it feeds fine. I use the Kimber to shoot at the range and save wear and tear on my two proven Wilsons as this is my carry gun.

The 8 round full size Kimber will not take 8 rounds. I can only get 7 rounds to go in to it and have dissasembled and cleaned it etc., but it just will not take 8 rounds. It does however, feed flawlessly with 7. It is a range mag and so this is dissapointing. May send it to Kimber. I am sure they will make it right.

The design of the mag is very good and should pose no problem with aluminum framed guns. This is the reason I tried them in the first place.
