Anyone think this would have been said if it were a pistol owned by a private citizen like us?

Only cops should have guns.........

Get one of those stupid slings people use to hang theit keys aroung their kneck. Hook it to the lanyard loop or trigger guard (check it's safe before!) and hang it around your kneck. You can have that sling folded in your pocket, and can even make one from Nylon string.
If the folks stare at you when you leave, you've forgotten to put in back.

That's gotta take a whole lot of bullets!

(Just pokin' a little fun;) )

Seriously, though, anyone who leaves their firearm unattended in a place of public accomodation should face consequences, whether they are civilian, LEO or other. The "wrong hands" entail a much wider scope of folks than just those who would deliberately use them violently. I am not one of those people who believes guns should be under lock and key at all times, but when in public they had better be completely under control AT ALL TIMES. Leaving a firearm in a public restroom would be like leaving your car unlocked and running near a group of adolescents. It is simply inviting disaster.

Easy now. This is not the movies where some vast conspiracy has been set up in which the criminal will pick the locks of his cuffs and ankle chains with a secretly hidden pin in his seat cushion that's been poking his ass the entire trip. And will then magically get one of the officers guns and shoot the plain down!
I'm sure the Con-Air scenario is less than likely to happen, but during transport of the prisoner, he may have some freinds... or enemies that feel that they should... relieve the officer of his duties

EDIT!

I'm reminding of those silly cases where officers spend their mornings at the range, and later to go to duty. All day of using their guns and when they clean them at night find out the peice was unloaded.

Glenn makes a very valid argument. If you are out of the building and use a public restroom you have very few options for storing your gun. In my experience I've found it best to remove it from the holster and place it across my underwear. That way it's right in front of you and you can't pull your pants up without retrieving your gun.

I have also left for work without my sidearm a couple of times. This happened when my kids were young and I'd lock up my gun when I came home. My kids are grown now so my sidearm stays in my holster on my duty belt. I have seen new officers come to work in uniform with no duty belt because they leave it in their work locker. I would advise any officer that does that to not stop at any location on their way into work. You may walk in on a robbery or some other disturbance and instead of being an LEO you'll become a target. If you are a uniformed officer make certain you ALWAYS have your weapon with you.

we have had a few of these threads lately.
the people we rely on to carry guns leave them laying around.
Sounds like they need to add a class on how to keep up with your gun
Bring back the original M1911 -- with lanyard.

If kids lost their mittens too often, Mommy used to tie them (the mittens, dammit!) together with a string through the sleeves of the jacket. I think if police officers lose their duty weapons the same logic should apply.

Responsible Firearms Ownership is more than just firearms

It is NOT an "Us vs Them" matter.

Personally I feel there should be NO gun control laws period. Folks should NOT be restricted in Carrying Weapons anytime, anywhere, including any Conveyance.

This thread "should" get folks to think about:

-Responsible Firearm behaviors, training if you will.
-Fighting Tyranny which uses these various "restrictions" in the guise of War on "[]"
-Getting these various "Restrictions" - removed totally - forever.
-Restoring lost Freedoms, Rights and making damn sure we Preserve all of our Freedoms, and Rights.

Folks just think "certain passengers" should not be on certain conveyances...

You would be surprised what all is "transported" on your Local Interstates, highways, and railroads. I'm speaking of chemicals, bio hazards, and all sorts of nasty stuff everyday.

The way some folks think - we should all be in fish bowl. For our own protection of course.

Training:

I mean we teach kids to Stop. Don't Touch, Get an Adult.. Well there was time...before Eddie Eagle even ...kids were trained to not touch a firearm, to NOT leave one laying around , same with matches, or the sharp kitchen kife. This training was instilled and further built upon thru teenage and adulthood years.

I mean who has NOT goofed up as an adult, left the matches out, or the kitchen knife out. Did not realize the kid was up - or around. Just turned your back , left for only split second matches or knife untattended?

"Mom/ Dad...the matches/ knife were left out, I'm not touching - just letting you know..."
Pehaps
" I am watching baby sib and moved the matches and knife out of reach..."

Folks did not trip out or freak out.

Training prevented stuff happening in the first place and Training prevented accidents when a mistake was made - a fail safe. Like the 4 rules of gun safety.

Tyranny wants "Things" to be the culprit. Easier to remove personal responsiblity that way. If "things" are blamed and therefore "things" banned. NO need for personal responsiblity because TPTB is now going to control folks and whatever the State indoctinates as being safe -is safe.

Perhaps if you want the ability to carry aboard an public aircraft you might look at 12+ week academy.

Imo god gave you the ability, but he also gave other people the ability use coercion against you. You should say, 'if you don't want to be coerced take a 12+...'

And, no offence meant, but I just mean to point out that your logic is failing. In this case. The content of the article is about someone who took that 12+ week course, and the article illustrates that the 12+ week course is not an effective way of determining who should carry firearms.

It doesn't prove a negative, it just disproves a positive. Your positive assertion is that the 12+ week course gives you the legitimacy to carry a firearm on an airplane. The article disproves that assertion.

Ergo, while we can't prove Yeager is right, we have no evidence to suggest he is wrong. And there is evidence to suggest you are wrong.

Nothing personal, just, that's how it is.

I like it.

Well who left it in the potty? I guess I missed what agency in the posts.

This is the fourth paragraph of the first post in the thread:

Police and airport officials said that an officer from the Fairfax County Police Department in Virginia was transporting a female prisoner. They stopped at Charlotte Douglas to catch a connecting flight.

Going to the stall creates a sort of dilemma for an armed person - officer or civilian. Where do you leave your pistol(s) when you are sitting on the throne? Think about it.

Lots of things can be done. I actually talk about this when I teach my carry class. Let's face it: While carrying, students are much more likely to go to the bathroom than to draw their guns.

A cop wearing a duty belt will have a retention holster. A gun grab is unlikely under the stall door with one of those.

A cop or carry permit holder in street clothes has many choices:

If wearing a belt holster (IWB or OWB), leave the gun in the holster, and arrange your pants to cover the gun as it sits on your pants between your ankles.

Alternately, lower your pants and re-fasten your belt. Hold your calves apart to keep the belt taut.

If you are worried that your holster will dump the gun... well, get a better holster.

If you must remove the gun from the holster, placing it in the underwear is a perfectly acceptable idea.

If you forget it there and yank up your pants quickly you could have a pistol/private parts collision and that could be disastrous.

Nah.

If you carry in a shoulder holster, a belly band, an ankle holster, a SmartCarry/Thunderwear holster, you're all set.

Removing the gun and placing it on the TP or on the toilet tank is NEVER a good idea, as law enforcement types have repeatedly demonstrated.

Having spent several YEARS assigned to a unit that performed all of the extraditions for a very large So. Cal agency I can speak with a little bit of insight.

Contrary to common thinking, prisoners being transported on commercial airlines ARE NEVER (EVER,EVER) CHAINED while in flight. Depending on the severity of the crime and potential for escape they are either escorted by 2 armed officers totally unrestrained (low risk) or they are placed into a metal locking leg brace so that their leg can not bend normally while walking (can't run?). They ARE handcuffed while in the terminal and in public areas but as soon as they are seated on the aircraft and seatbelts are fastened the CUFFS COME OFF. This is an FAA rule (safety issue that he must be able to get off in an emergency,,HAHA) and a stewardess WILL ABSOLUTELY CHECK before takeoff and she will advise the pilot that we are in compliance. There are many other details but you get the idea. So if you see a couple of clean cut guys escorting a 3rd guy with a limp get on the plane before you and they sit in the last row of the plane, BEWARE!

Not to digress too much, but I have to comment on that mininvan that was posted. First we have "What part of 'thou shalt not kill' do you not undersand," then "Jesus was a pacifist."

Then we have "Quit bitching, start a revolution," and the symbol for Rockstar Games, the creators and publishers of the Grand Theft Auto series!

Hilarity ensues...

I'm glad I'm not the only one that caught that.

What is scarry is the concourse is post security check, that firearm could have made it onto any flight leaving that concourse.
I'm thinking that heads "will" roll.

I really like the "Actions Speak Louder Than Bumperstickers" bumpersticker that's placed above the others.

The fact that it has a multitude of college parking permits and a California license plate comes as no suprise.

The owner should just get a personalized license place that says EZVICTM. :barf:
