The day started simply enough. Worked a half day and got a call that the Zastava M59 SKS I'd ordered had come in. Went to the gun store to pick it up and was pleasantly surprised at the quality and very surprised that it had a teakwood stock.
While there I spotted an Ithaca Model 37 12ga with both Deerslayer barrel and vented rib barrel on consignment for $400. I'd had one for 30 years but gave it to my son-in-law a few years ago. I missed it so last year bought a new Model 37, but with an English stock. I hated the look and feel of it from the moment I got it home. Well, I sold it to one of the countermen at the store for $200 cash and bought the consignment gun.
I called a good friend/co-worker to "share the moment" and he suggested we drive to Baker, FL to window shop at the best stocked gun store in our area.
I went because I recalled they had a used gen 2 Glock 21 for $430 that'd been there awhile. I was toying with the idea of buying it for my son-in-law as I already have one.
I picked my friend up at his house and before we left he asked if I was interested in selling him back an accurized Norinco 1911 I'd horsetraded him out of last year. I liked the Norc and knew what guns he owns and told him flippantly, "I'll trade the Norc and 2 magazines for your Ruger Model 77 .30-'06." He said, "Deal!" I was stunned...I didn't want to lose the Norc and never believed he'd take me up on it. My lucky day, the Ruger came with a Bushnell 3X-9X scope. He even threw in a box of Remington 220gr core-lokt's and about 30 re-loads.
We got there to Baker about 4:00 and I beat him into the store to get first crack at the Glock 21. The owner handed it to me and I noted outloud that it was a gen3. I handed it back to the owner and said, "I dunno...I may come back to that..." On that cue my buddy said, "I'll buy it." I should have never set the gun down...a gen 3!
I felt like I'd been aced out. So I consoled myself by buying a pre-owned SIG 226 two-tone in 9mm for $529. Came with 2 mags and bought 2 more. Also bought a SIG 226 Barrel in .40S&W for $199.
My buddy was caught up in the frenzy and I talked him into buying my blued Bersa Thunder .380 and Kel-Tec P3AT for $350 so that I could afford a new two-tone Bersa Thunder for $259. I like Bersa's and wanted an upgrade and feel I made a good deal as the P3AT was destined to become either a paperweight or aggregate in my next concrete pour. Getting rid of it was the Hi-Point (sic) of my day.
I feel giddy.
