Gun lanes and urinals (don't ask)

Stay away from anyone who aims with the sideways gansta aim. Did anyone ever see that funny picture of the glock with the sites mounted on the side? :D

In general, it's live and let live. Although in some circumstances--like when I'm really curious or want to express my appreciation for a tight group--I'll say something. The other day at a range in Bakersfield with my brother, I waited until the guy next to me was wrapping up before I asked where he'd learned his nice skills. We had a lovely conversation and this at-least-3-Glock-owning gentleman got to try our rented XD-40. Which was nice for everyone.

The other day at my local range, I struck up a convo with a teen and his dad about their 10/22s; I wanted to see how they'd mounted their scopes. (I just bought my bro's 10/22--the most persuasive thing I said to him was, "You can put that money toward a new XD...")

And just last night, the guy next to me asked about the G23 I was shooting, then complimented me on my (very loose) group. Well, it was about speed, not group... :)

That picture is prominently displayed in several places at my range with the warning, "No Gangsta-style Shooting."

Dallas ranges I know of are:

Bullet Trap (Plano, Ave K). Indoor. Memberships available but open to the public (at a very high price). I've been a member for several years. Bought a membership for $60-80 (can't remember) and a 20 visit punch card for $90. The punch card brings the cost (without membership factored in) down to $4.50 per visit (unlimited time, not hourly). If you don't want to purchase a punch card, memberhsip rate is about $6.50 or $8.00 for a visit. You can actually pay and shoot then leave and come back later that day for no additional cost if you keep your receipt.

DFW Gun Range. Nice indoor range off of Mockingbird. Memberships available but may be open to public. They are are the bigger gunshows also with a small display of guns for sell.

Target Master. Off of Jupiter road. Went to see the indoor range but did not shoot there. Open to the public.

Garland gun range -- they are at the big gunshows with literature but I have not been there. Outdoor. Open to the public.

Dallas Gun Club - went to watch a Glock competition there once but I heard they were shutting down (don't know if this is true). Private membership. Outdoor.

Collin County Gun Range - in McKinney. I went to watch a competition there once and it looked nice. Outdoor.

Winchester Public Shooting Range. Off of Luna road in Dallas. Went to look but never shot there. Outdoor.

Very nice indoor range in Fort Worth, On Target might be the name. I'll have to check on that one. I was there once to sell a gun to the Colt dealer (Lee Bassinger of S&S/On Target).

Bass Pro has a VERY small handgun range in their store. You have to go in through the store and have each gun checked and a lock put on it, log in how many magazines you have and how many rounds of ammo. A REAL pain if you're like me with several guns and a zillion magazines and rounds of ammo. You cannot use silhouette type targets.

Heh - Went to Bullseye in St. Louis a while back. The management said they were a little busy, and would we mind waiting or doubling up, because the guy they had in lane #1 was playing with a subgun, and we might get some brass in #2 and #3... Put the Knob Creek hat on, no problem. Turned out I knew the fellow...

QB, I went to the DFW Gun range- It was very nice and the people there were quite nice to us. I'm thinking about getting a membership there.

This is why I do all my shooting outdoors.

That, and the fact that there are no indoor ranges around here.

Just the bluejays/crows/kingfishers/seagulls and I..

Not to be rude, but as deaf as I am naturally, I keep to myself. I don't want to talk to anyone or remove my ear protection for any reason in case someone let's one off...God does it hurt!

I'm that guy who talks to everyone - when they aren't shooting - unless they give me 'that look' or look too serious to be bothered. I love to meet new people and to compare and shoot guns.

I like all the different types. Especially the #2s with their tricked out comp guns with 1 lb triggers and precious handloads... fun stuff.

I always use earplugs AND muffs and dont take the plugs out where I will be expose to shot noise, I work in a noisy environment and am used to talking with plugs in , be aware it does give some people tunnel vision when plugged so make sure they know your there.:)

Hey,

I thought the best part of shooting was the socialization!

I'm a No. 2. (Why are all those 8 yo's giggling when I say that?) When I go to the range to shoot, I go to learn, relax, and have fun. Talking to a number 2 might suck up some time, but you may learn something. If you haven't been competing, those guys will proabably have something to teach you.

wanna get better at hitting a tiny target? talk to a bullseye guy. wanna learn how to shoot fastr than an UZI, and still hit stuff, talk to an IPSC guy. You do want to improve, don't you?

owen

Only complaint about #2s: that darn plastic thing they affix to their glasses to help their shooting.

That thing really throws me off... I can't make eye contact with that eye.
