I am going to be flying home from college soon I have a few of gun magazines, I don't think that it is a good idea to put them in my carry on for some reading material on the plane. I feel that someone may over react. What do you think?

I do it all the time. I usually go for the "tactical, LEO, ect." type of mags for the ride. I usually get left alone (when sitting next to "that annoying guy"). Read what you want and travel safe.

I've been known to buy them at the airport and I often leave them in the seat back as a gift, hopefully an appreciated one, for someone else to access.

I've always wanted to salt the break room magazine pile with gun mags. I work in a faiirly lefty outfit.

I wonder how long they'd stay there.

Forget the gun magazines. Play MS-Flight Sim 2004 while flying on the airplane. Make sure you fly the same make and livery of the plane you're on. Trust me, that makes other passengers and flight attendants VERY nervous

Especially if you don't take the time to learn how to land....:scrutiny:

As Phil said they sell them at the Airport in those news stands. So I see no problem with it. If they don't want you to read them, then tell them not to sell them.

porn might be a bad choice, otherwise read what you like. I recently was at my public library killing time and noticed out of the 30 magazines on display not one was a hunting or shooting publication. I thought the gun mags were signed out or something so went up to the desk where the nice lady told me gun magazines like porn have no place in the public library:what: I was so surprised by her answer I was speechless and walked away feeling like a pervert.

Did you ever notice what comes just before the Second Amendment in the Consitiution?

Yep, its the First Amendment. It goes like this:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

I'd take Guns & Ammo AND Soldier of Fortune specifically to get a rise from someone. And if you can find an English copy of Modern Jihad...

Sitting, reading a copy of American Riflemen on my way back from Florida

"I take offense to the magazine you're reading sir"

"Oh, why's that?"

"Because guns kill people"

"Nope, the guy holding the gun does. But I guess if I was reading about a liar and insider trader who tried to use status as a celbrity to get out of trouble I'd be ok with you hmm?"

Blank stare for a moment before I pointed to Martha Stuart on the cover of her magazine. She got real red in the face and talked to a few attendants, pointed over at me. We landed in New York, the one attendant came up to me as we were getting off the plane, smiled and todl me she was trying to get them to kick me off the plane. Her southern drawl and her sliding the same issue of American Riflemen out of her purse made me smile :D

I carried a copy of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six (which I hadn't read in years) and Richard Lee's Modern Reloading when I went to Jamaica about 2 weeks ago. Not so much as a raised eyebrow. ATL was far too busy to take time to read what was in my carry-on, and at Sangster (In Montego Bay) Their favorite sayng is "No Problem, Mon!" I love that culture.

Do it. You'll be fine.

Picked up a Guns and Ammo and Outdoor world for my trip to Vegas a couple of weeks ago. The guy next to me started chatting about hunting. Did not get any other responses.

Last time I checked a magazine will not go off.

Well, I took a Gary Kleck book to read. The TSA genius saw the cover which said - Gun something and said: Lordy, he is going to kill us all.

I pointed to the subtitle which said something about gun control and her hysteria ceased.

There is a joke about ready Playbook on the plane and taping the centerfold to the seat in front - but I'm too classy to repeat it.

Especially if you don't take the time to learn how to land....

Never could figure out how to land a plane in flight simulator, it's much harder to land then a real aircraft, as there is no feel to the average joystick.

Anyways I normally put on my iPod with a pair of noise cancelling headphones and no one bothers me at all.

Though coming back from England in 2003 I picked up the book Bush at War (train station book store so the selection was limited) so I can read it on the train to Scotland (first time on a long distance train too), I finished it on the flight home, thus it was on the top of my camera bag.

The customs inspector saw it and went on a rant about how Bush was going to ruin the world, barely looking at our bags. We just nodded, took out bags, and went on our merry way.

I made a good friend on my last international flight after I saw a gun magazine in his bag. He was trying to hide it (American Rifleman), but I had the same issue and recognized a corner of the cover.

Never be ashamed of who you are. Never do anything of which you would really be ashamed.

I was reading this book the last time I was on a plane. Didn't have any trouble.

Clicked that link and the banner ad at the top of the page was for Olive Garden. Don't think I'll be eating there for awhile! :barf:

I've taken gun books and magazines onto planes before and no one who matters (TSA guards, screeners, attendants) has ever even batted an eye. I really could care less if some uptight woman takes offense with my choice of reading material.
