Gun Permit Question GA Residents Respond

I had an argument with a co-worker who says that a gun permit and a CCW license are not the same thing. Now when I went to apply for my gun permit this past monday I had the assumption that it was the same thing as a CCW. Now after reading www.packing.org I stand firm in my beliefs, I just need a little clarification on what a gun permit and a ccw are. Thanks in advance guys.

In Georgia, the license is called a "Firearm License". There is nothing called a CCW permit in Georgia.

If you have a Firearm License, you can carry open or concealed.

Some states require gun buyers to have a license to purchase a firearm. Georgia does not have that requirement, but maybe your friend is confused.

In North Carolina, there is such a thing as a "gun permit" (a Pistol Purchase Permit). Costs $5 at your local sheriff's office, or from the sheriff's table at a gun show. If you have an NC CCW license, you don't need a pistol purchase permit because the CCW license already involves a thorough background check.

Most states don't have permits to purchase, though.

NV has no such thing. In fact NV doesn't even issue concealed carry permits.

Lone_Gunman is correct. I have gun loving friends in Georgia that even get this confused. "Permit" in some states implies a permission to purchase. In the Georgia the CCW license says "Georgia Firearms License" and is commonly referred to as a permit.

And it is not even consistently for firearms.

In florida, we have the "concealed weapons permit", which applies to firearms, knives, etc.

Alabama calls it a "Pistol Permit" but its the same thing as a CCW license...
