Many of you may have seen an episode or two of "The Closer," a cops show set in LA that runs during the summer months on cable. It's what network TV folks call a proceedural, in the vein of "Law & Order": a crime takes place, the special homicide unit investigates the crime, and the detectives close the case before the end of the hour ... typical fare.

What has my interest is the gun poster that is attached to the wall outside of the chief's office. From what you can tell in brief flashes as the LEOs walk past, it shows various types of handguns -- revolvers, semi-automatics, whatnot -- and identifies them, likely by name and model.

Anyone know if that's for real or something that the TV folks invented for the show, and where you might be able to get one? It would make a great wall poster in a gun room.

Thanks in advance for weighing in.

Iis a real poster from Smith and Wesson that shows their various handguns. There are three versions of the poster, one with just revolvers, one with just autos, and one with a mixture.

I got mine directly from S&W at an IDPA match. I don't believe they sell them directly anymore.

They do make great wall hangings, but I have mine in my reloading area.

It's hard to say if this is the exact one they use in the TV show because you only catch a fleeting glimpse of the thing from time to time as the characters pass by. But it looks like a reasonable substitute. It would seem logical that police agencies might want to have a handy-dandy way of identifying the various firearms that come to their attention on a daily basis and wouldn't want to rely on a manufacture-specific poster to get the job done; all bad guys everywhere don't use S&Ws exclusively, after all.

This thing is pretty cool, however. Thanks for the lead.

I wish there were a similar compendium for Glocks. I get tired of googling things like Glock 79 just to find out the caliber.

I believe there are many forms of this poster. I have seen similar ones that display the same info but they were in a blue background in police precincts on Long Island and NYC. It may be possible to get a non-specific one as opposed to that one.

Kyra Sedgwick is an Anti. ;p

I feel sorry for her husband Kevin Bacon.
