Does anybody know of any gun ranges near Lancaster, Ohio? I was a member of the Pickaway County Sportsman's Club, but I didn't renew my membership. I mainly want to shoot 100 yards or longer if given the chance and I want to actually be able to shoot on the weekends and not have to worry about competitions going on every weekend. I am willing to drive an hour if needed.

Ohio Valley Outdoors has an indoor range. Located just off 33 accross from Meijers. I believe it is a 25 yd range. Rifles are allowed just no steel of any sort in the ammo, case or projectile, they will check with a magnet prior to your entrance.

I have shot trap at a range next to the airport there before, but for 100 yard rifle and being willing to drive an hour, I would think you would have a few choices. Alum Creek Range, Deer Creek range would be where I would look. There used to be a place just south of Zanesville on Rt. 555 that you could shoot 1000 yards by appointment only. I'm not sure that place is still there or not. I drove past it weekly for a few years. The best thing to do is go to a friend's property where you can shoot if you know someone willing. Luckily I have a few friends like that.

ODNR (Ohio dept. natural resources) has ranges all throughout the state. The one out by me (Grand River) is pretty decent. There may be one out by you.

100 yards is a no go in Lancaster. The indoor range is nice but gets extremely busy during the weekend. Briar Rabbit is the range in Zanesville south of 555. It no longer requires an appointment but you might run into competitions, just check their rifle schedule on their website. That's where I'd go if driving isn't an issue.

that's it, Briar Rabbit. thanks browneu. I always wanted to stop there but never did. I passed it on my way to my 38 acres I had out there before I sold it. Didn't have the need to stop there when I had the property though. I built a covered shooting table on a 25 yard range into a hillside. I had more room to shoot than I had gun to shoot at that time.

Briar Rabbit is a nice outdoor facility. I've shot some action pistol, sporting clay, and they also have other competitions. You should stop by if you ever get a chance.

I wish I had that much land to do the same thing that you did. I used to live in the country but moved to the suburbs for my adult years. Let's just say suburb life isn't for me.
