I am temporarily re-located for several weeks to San Antonio due to Hurricane Rita, but will start working on daily basis in Austin later this week. There is another evacuee that is located in Austin. We both have or will have our entire complement of guns and wanted to find a good place in the Austin area to shoot rifles and handguns until we can move back home. Any input is appreciated.

I'll be glad to store your guns! Welcome to the Peoples Republic of Austin! There are several ranges here. Only indoor ranges I know of are Red's indoor range in Pflugerville(north Austin) and they have one in the South. www.redsguns.com $12/hour last time I was there. Good range out in Cedar Park called Eagle Peak. $10 membership and then $10/day range fee. No FMJ rifle ammo allowed though :( . Rifle, pistol, and skeet range outside Manor. $6 a gun, the owner sets up the targets. Gotta be careful, you'll find some "live" ones here usually. There's a private club outside Manor that is supposed to be very good. I'm hoping to join myself, sometime soon. Many members post on THR so hopefully you'll hear from them soon. Basically get the yellow pages and start calling ranges for more details.

Austin Ranges

Austin Rifle Club Outside Manor - near the skeet range is ok. I go on Thursdays let me know if you want to go. I'll sign you in.

Thanks. I might take you up on the offer. Do you know of any other outdoor public ranges? Also, we might be up for any gun competitions in either San Antonio or Austin. This friend and I usually shoot small and large bore handgun silhouette, IDPA, IPSC, 200-yd military match, 3-gun matches, or just about any other match.

Elliost, is it normally OK to invite guests? Just wondering. Me and a friend have been talking about joining for quite awhile. We already have most of the forms. I understand that the club is not a freeforall, but was wondering if bringing say, a wife who doesn't hardly ever shoot, once in a blue moon OK?

The range rules at:
http://www.austinrifleclub.org/Documents/ARC orientation _2_.pdf

state in part 11 that you can bring each individual guest twice per calendar year, unless they live farther than 100 miles from the range, then its unlimited. I.E. if they live close enough to join, and want to shoot there more than twice a year, they should join themselves. But if your uncle from Dallas visits you 6 times a year, you can take him out with you each time.
So you could take your wife out twice a year. And your neighbor twice a year, and your coworker twice a year ... etc.

Thanks Ellric! :) Appreciate the info and I will definetly work on becoming a member soon. I've heard nothing but good things about ARC.
