Greetings. My sister is getting her PhD at UM, Ann Arbor. She and her housemates are interested in learning to shoot.

Can anyone recommend a good range near Ann Arbor, or any suggestions on finding NRA Basic courses in the area?

Thanks for any info, -MV

I used to shoot on the U of Mich Rifle team. The range was above the computer lab (NUBS?) that sits behind North Hall. We took anyone, regardless of experience. Uncle Sam provided the gear and ammo.

I imagine they're still there.
(nevermind, I think NUBS was razed--the club may still be around, practicing at Eastern).

I can definitely fix her up. Shoot me an email and I'll help her out. :)

(I don't teach but know some excellent instructors out that way.)

Another A2 Range finder....

Hello,
I am also in Ann Arbor and have had trouble finding good places to shoot.
Look up top gun shooting sports, its fairly close and a nice range. $11 per hour +$3 for two people in one lane if I remember right. There is also the firing line in canton though I have not been there.

If anyone knows of other places please post...It's hard for poor married college students to find cheap ranges....

Could you post or PM some more info on the UM or Eastern range you were talking about?

Williams Gunsight in Davison isn't exactly close to you, but $5.00 each gets all the time you want on their pistol & rifle ranges, and they have trap & skeet shooting ranges available 3 days per week, not to mention they've got LOTS of new and used guns & gear to drool over...

Theres an indoor range in downtown Dexter. I cant remember the name of it it is just west of downtown on the north side of the street you cant miss it they have a lot of boats in the parking lot.

It's too bad there are no plinking areas/ranges around here. I live in Ypsilanti, and a lot of times I just want to go play(safely of course) with my .22 pistol. It sucks I have to spend all sorts of money and conform to the 2 second rule.

I have spent a lot of time and some money at Williams in Davison. I used to live 15 min or so from there, but I've never used their range. Pretty nice shop though. (I've always wanted to go in their LEO only building)

Neat to see more people in my area on THR!!!

Mr. Cutts...

...Don't let the name stop you. The law enforcement showroom is mostly holsters, cuffs & carriers, etc. You don't need to be a LEO to shop there.

There is some state land in Lapeer known as The Pit. It's a big open field with a hill at the back. It's free and you can shoot whatever you want, though there aren't any benches. It's kind of a haul from AA but I liked shooting there when I was in school in Flint. I can post detailed directions tomorrow when I get back home if you're interested.
