If one HAS to drill a hole in a typical gun safe to allow the passage of a cable for a power strip inside the safe, where's the best place to drill that hole? Would you run that hole through the interior fireproofing as well, or route the cable behind it?

I have drilled holes in my fire resistant safe for mounting bolts. The "fire proof" material in the walls looks like a wet gypsum compound. The important thing if you drill it is to take a small tube of caulk and seal around the bolts or wire to keep that material from drying out. (inside and outside) Why do you want a power strip inside the safe? I just ran one piece of 18 ga. wire and attached a receptacle to it. I have also used a cheap extension cord with a molded on receptacle inside the safe and a plug attached to the outside. This gave me three outlets in the safe.

If this is for lighting, I would recommend low voltage LED strip lighting. Amazon sells kits with power supplies that can light the whole inside of the safe easily.

Unless you're using a dehumidifier?
