Gun Safes?

Alrighty, I've decided I need a safe. Now, I'd like to get a Liberty, Ft. Knoxx, or Cannon, BUT they're out of the question for now, as I rent. I'm hoping to buy a house in the next year or two though (hoping the "housing bubble" will burst). Anyway, do any of you have any experience with the Zanotti safes? Thoughts? Or should I just get a relatively "cheap" (like the Sentry safes or the ones at Sam's club) safe until I move and then get a big Mamma-Jamma safe?

Zanottis aren't cheap, the ZA-I retails for $1415 and I had to write to get a price list to find that out the rest are

The best value for money on the market right now has to be the Sam's Club safe. It's way lower priced than the others, and even includes delivery, which is often a $100+ extra on other safes. See here and scroll down for the larger safes.

I've had one of the Liberty Safes from Sam's Club for several yrs now. I'm very happy with it. Mine will accomodate 16 long guns and my 15 handguns with room to spare with no special effort. When I put mine in the closet of my computer/TV room (3rd Bdrm) I bolted it through the floor and set it inside the doorframe with built-in shelves around it so that it can't be removed from the closet without quite a bit of extra effort.

No run-of-the mill thief is gonna get my goodies, so long as I remember to turn the dial before I leave.

Without getting into the whole security issue......

I was getting many requests for information regarding the safes being sold in Sam's, Costco, Bass Pro, and other large stores. Most of these lower priced safes are being imported from Asia, and for the money, are OK for protecting firearms from children and smash and grab burglars.

It seems that all of the big names are importing their lower priced lines. Liberty and Browning (Pro-Steel) are both selling Chinese safes. I have searched long and hard, and have finally found a wholesaler that imports these safes.

Most of these safes are slightly smaller and lighter than their American counterparts, which makes for easier shipping. It also makes them better for situations where weight is a concern.

I do not have any information regarding these safes available in a public area, but would be happy to share specifics with anyone who is interested. Just send me an e-mail with what you're wanting to know, and I'll answer it the best I can with what information I have available.

Apparently all of these safes are coming from just 2 or 3 plants out of Asia, and the only difference is the name applied to the door.

FWIW, I read your other posts (I did a search). I'm aware I'm not going to be getting the same protection that I would get from a high end safe, BUT something is better than nothing.

I have a browning medallion safe at it has served me well through out the years. I'm needing to upgrade to a bigger one soon.

Alrighty,
I just got back from Sam's. They had the Winchester 60x30x22 with UL electronic lock and 1200 degree/30 minute rating for $598....but they don't ship. On Sam's website, they have a bigger selection, but they cost more (assuming to cover shipping). The same one as the store's is $813, and the one with the non-electric lock is $978. Now, which is considered better the UL Listed electronic keypad lock or the manual?

I'd prefer the manual lock, but the electronic one can always be replaced. If you can handle your own collection and setup (think friends with pickup trucks ), the direct-from-Sams price is a steal!

I know, I'm new to the area, so I don't have many buddies here. I may have to check at the club to see. Hell, it even might be worth it to rent a truck.

I'm a Zanotti owner. It's a fine safe...Overpriced. The gimic is it's ability to put up and tear down. Problem is...the sections are too heavy for one man to move. You still need help. They are still very resistant to breakins however...I love mine, I'm glad I own it, BUT, it will be moved by movers, in one piece, if I ever need to move. Your call.....Zebulon

I have a Zanotti ZAII 6ft. I hauled it home and put it together by myself...The Door was a bit on the heavy side and if I were to do it again I would ask for help putting the door on.....I purchased the safe in Feb. of 99 for $1540 total....

BTW...it was plenty big enough when I bought it....now I have some of my guns in the old wood gun cabinet the safe was supposed to replace?...The safe is either shrinking or those guns are breeding in the dark recesses of the safe

I too prefer a good old fashioned manual combo lock.The Winchesters at Sam's are hard to beat.Get one that has external hinges--moving is a LOT easier if you can remove the door.Use a hydraulic car jack.
