Man, that really sucks. Isn't UPS technically "mail"? I wonder what kind of legal recourse there might be there.

I would not be surprised if the girl at the UPS store did it intentionally/maliciously. Maybe she thought, "I'll send it to the ATF instead and get a gun off the streets! I'm so witty!"

I've seen govt employee emails with a lot more ascii art than just a smiley.

As I have preached about before, communication is key. I will contact the seller again (by cell phone) and let him know the latest information: Then based on the information provided previously in regards to re-routing maybe the seller can do that instead of picking up the shipping cost again.

DORAVILLE,
GA, US 03/17/2008 10:01 P.M. THE RECEIVER DID NOT WANT THE ORDER AND REFUSED THIS DELIVERY / RETURNED TO SHIPPER
03/17/2008 7:35 P.M. PICKUP SCAN

Well, here is the latest update for those of you still following the saga:

Polishrifleman,
> Just wanted to let you know that I was able to pickup the rifle today and
> re-ship it out to you successfully. It is supposed to arrive next Wednesday
> the 26th. Here is the tracking # xyzpdq.
> Sorry again for the delay and I appreciate your patience. Let me know when
> it arrives and feel free to continue calling me with any questions.
> Thanks,

I can't wait till Wednesday!

So the rifle etc... are officially mine. Other than logging an additional 2500 miles in transit taking an additional week and costing another shipping fee to the seller everything ended up well. The Government didn't screw up, I don't need to sue anyone, and life will continue.

So in summary:
If by chance a gun is accidently sent to the BATF address in the top left of the FFL form, the shipment will be refused and it will be sent back to the sender.

Lesson #1 Make sure you communicate! This goes to Sellers and Buyers
Lesson #2 Get various and assorted ways to communicate (cell phone, home phone, email, etc..) You never know when the next outage will come.
Lesson #3 Have faith and patience in your fellow man (This is a tough one for a lot of us)
Lesson #4 Don't be affraid to send in Lenny and Guido:neener:

This is an odd situation, I'm glad to hear that it looks like it's resolving itself well.

Maybe I'm naive, but do they do ANYTHING with alcohol or tobacco?
I work in a gas station that sells alcohol and tobacco. I assure you that they DO check alcohol and tobacco compliance. (They send in "test subjects" for us a couple times a week during busy months)
