Gun Shops SW Ohio

You can buy over the (small) counter at AIM. That's how I got my TZ99 on the drive back from an F1 race at Indianapolis. Not sure if they'll let you rummage around to pick out a surplus rifle in the best shape you can find. SOG will only allow dealers and, IIRC, C&R holders to pick up guns at their location.

Couple of nice ones north of Dayton if you want to make a drive up. Vandalia Range and Armory's nice with a good range. The owner's a pretty nice guy.

Old English Outfitter's is nice but, no range.

A gun shop that I have used successfuly in the past is Gary's Guns & Tackle in Fairfield. 1135 Magie Ave., 513-829-8588. They have a small stock of new and used handguns and long guns. They will order anything for you for a reasonable markup. They take credit cards for no up charge.

I first ran across Gary at a local gun show, but he hasn't had a booth at a show in several years. I'm not sure how you define "friendly" staff, but they will gladly show you anything they have and will check availablity immediately of anything they don't have. They do expect you to know what you are looking for.

I have not purchased anything from them since the Brady wait period expired, because I have gotten in the habit of going to gun shows and taking home what I purchase; plus I no longer work close to them.

BTW, let us know what you find out from AIM.

You might want to check out some of the dealers at the gun show this week end in Wilmington. Pro Gun show, Roberts Centre. Some of the dealers that frequent the local shows (Pro Gun and Bill Goodman) have friendly staffs and decent prices.

I have been to AIM many times. For walk-ins it is just a small counter, no showroom or anything. You can't pick out your own rifle/pistol, but they are very helpful if you are looking for something in particular. Tim usually takes care of the walk-ins up there and has hooked me up in the past. Several times I have had him bring out another specimen out if the first one was not to my liking(I'm picky). No problems, ever. I give them my highest recommendation.

The only thing you might watch for is on the website. If they are out of stock on something, it may still be on the site. It will say something to the effect of "temporarily out of stock, etc" as the first line in the description. They used to pull the sold out item off of the site entirely.

I live in the Cincinnati area. Costellos in North College Hill of Galbraith Rd and Arms and Accessories in Cheviot on North Bend and Harrison Ave are the two I'll deal with. Also, on the east side in Newtown is a place called One Stop. I purchased a shotgun from them once. They have a good shop there.
I have only been to Gary's Gun shop in Fairfield twice. The last time he was rude. Never went back.

Shooters Supply in Loveland seems like a good shop. There prices aren't bad either. He quoted me $349 for a Ruger KP95 NIB.

Henry beat me to it: Shooter's Supply in Loveland. Friendly, know their stuff, CCL-friendly.

They're trying to open a range in a nearby building (even got it passed by the voters), but getting pushback from the zoning board.

I can't find anything by the name of One Stop in Newtown. Do you have an address or phone number that might help me find it?

The one time I stopped in Shooter's Supply, the two gentlemen there were very friendly.

Two other possible options are Milford Gun Shop (218 Main St, Milford), which has a pretty large selection of used long guns, and Facet Jewelry, Music and Pawn (1003 Lila Ave. Milford). Facet has a smaller selection and I don't think any of the salemen know much about guns, which has its pros and cons.

+1 for Shooter's Supply in Loveland. Nice folks although the last time I was there (May) their inventory was very limited.

Target World has a very large selection. I didn't think their prices were as bad as they used to be ;-) Watch for when they have their manufacturer's special pricing.

Further east in West Union, the Adams County Dept. Store has a good selection of long guns and a fair selection of handguns. Prices tend to be a bit high, but they give (IMO) very good trade in prices, so the bottom line was decent.

Oh another odd ball discovery is the hardware store in Newtonsville (Clermont Co). Large selection on very dusty shelves! He has inventory that may take him days to find!

I agree that Shooter's Supply is friendly and sometimes have decent prices, but I would again encourage you to check out the gun show in Wilmington tomarrow or Sunday. I personally can't get past the upcharge for credit cards from some dealers, especially at the shows.

The correct business position is to mark product at credit card prices and offer a discount for using cash or post two prices. In any case, when going to the shows it is smart to take cash anyway, because you might find a private deal too good to pass up.

I will not go to any more Wilmington gun shows. I do not like having rifle pointed at me!

It was done by the show employee at the check-in station while he was fooling with the gun. When I asked him not to point the rifle at me while he was fooling with it, he got very angry and threatened to throw me out. I would have left if it wouldn't have wasted a three hour drive.

He, of course, claimed that the gun was unloaded. I pointed out that a lot of fatalities happen with "unloaded" guns.

I emailed the head of the sponsoring outfit and the show manager about the situation. I received no response. I guess they don't care. Fine, I know where I will not go again. If the employees don't know the first thing about safe gun handling and management doesn't care then it's not a safe place.

Target World in Cinn. I would suggest the drive to Old English Outfitter's about an hour north. Once you are there you can throw a rock and hit Vandalia Tactical , Vandalia Range and Armory and Gander Mountian.

If you want to drive to Columbus Vance's has a good selection of long guns and new and used handguns. Not much in the way of reloading supplies and equipment. Columbus also has a couple of Gander Mountains, a couple of Dunhams, a couple of Dick's Sporting Goods and an assortment of Walmarts. New Albany Shooting Range has a reasonable stock of handguns and long guns and a few used firearms.
