I went to a local gun show today and while I was walking around I see this Colt Detective Special that is really nice, the blue finish is perfect like it's never seen a holster. So I walked around some more.

I come back to this Colt and look at the bore and charge holes, absolutely pristine. Now I'm not a gun expert but I would call it unfired. So I ask the guy if he can take off the tie so I can check the trigger and he does.
Now I have read some of you guys talk about old Colts locking up like a bank vault but I've never seen one till I checked this gun at full lock up, it was like a rock, like one piece of metal.
So I ask this guy about this gun and he says that he is the original owner and bought it in 1979. :what:
He says that he's put less than a box of shells through it. So I check the bore again with my angled pen light. Perfect.
The guy wants 375 for it so I walk around some more.

Good decision, bad decision, it was my decision....so I took that baby home.
The guy tells me if I'll give him 375 then he will cover the taxes and trow in a Pachmayr rubber grip for it (like I would ever take off the originals)
Got some pics for you, can't wait to take it to the range

Very nice wish i could find a Colt in good shape all the ones i saw at last gun show looked they they had seen 4-5 tours of duty and were commanand top doller

Ric:

You did a whole lot more walking around then I would have done. Be glad you found it when you went back .

Some people .... :uhoh: :neener: :D :D

A steal as you describe it. A middling one would do $475- 500 around here; I was looking at one today.

Good job. I carry one as my BUG. Mine was manufactured in 73 and though it's starting to show more wear then yours it still has a tight and I do mean tight lock up. I tried replacing the factory grips, but discovered that the grips work better. So I put them back on. I'm not a big Colt fan, but I like my Detective Special. It's sweet.

Everytime I walk away to "Think About It" it's gone when I come back. That is a real find and a fine price!

Great find! Congrats!

I got one at a show a few months ago, but it isn't anywhere as nice as yours. But the trigger is sooo sweet!

Stock it with 158gr LSWC hollow points for defensive tasks and it will serve you well.

A great gun and a great buy. I picked up one, a much older version, without the shroud, and with much more finish wear, for $225 (plus shipping and $10 for transfer fees.)

I love Colts -- I carried a Colt M357 my first tour in Vietnam, and still have it.

VERY NICE..

The only walk around would have been to make sure I had the cash..:D

Nice buy and enjoy...

I have 2 det specials great shooters, I am keeping the one made in 1952, but have the one made in 1973 for sale, $400.00 very good condition
