Is anyone planning on attending the upcoming gun how at the Orange Coutny Fairgrounds in Middletown, NY on September 6th or 7th? http://users.erols.com/fasttrack/loc/mid/Middletown-Flyer-08.pdf

I am hopeful that Brendan and I can attend on Saturday the 6th. I am supposed to meet a couple of buddies there; it would be nice to meet some THR members there too.

I am also hopeful that Brendan will purchase his first self bought rifle on that day. That is if he has saved enough change (saving his, mine and my wife's change for a new gun). He wants a Saiga in 7.62x39.

If you are attending, here is a link to a $1.00 off coupon: http://www.ocshooters.com/Gen/gunshow-1.htm.

All the best,
Glenn B

Gunshow...NY...in the same sentence? How can that be? I'm not planning on going, just find it interesting the state would even allow one.

You find it interesting that the state would even allow a gun show! If that is for real, then you know very little factual information about New York State. Stuff like this is what gets me about all the gun forum know it alls (not saying you are one) as they certainly would like to leave you with the impression that a state like NY is run exclusively by an anti-gun populace, and there are no guns, gun shows, gun stores, ranges herein. The same goes for many a know it all gun blogger. It seems they have gotten to you and gotten you to think that way.

NY has been having gun shows for a long time, it is not a state that is only made up of anti-gun leftists. We even have gun stores in New York State, and ranges and gun stores within the confines of New York City. If you couldn't imagine it - you do not have to - I am telling you it is fact.

All the best,
GB

new yawk is a pretty gun friendly state....when you look at the big picture

we have had concealed carry for since the 30's (sullivan act)
but we do have a lot of hoops to jump through some times and
we do have some seemingly harsh restrictions (ten round mags, etc)

but....we are better than some of our neighboring states
although who can compare to vermont?????
(just alaska)

of course, not too friendly for out of staters who want to carry
concealed (or at all) but you can pass through on your way
to a more friendly state

going to the syracuse show in a few weeks....it is the biggest around
and there are always lots of good stuff to peruse....

it is just the down state area and some of the bigger cities that
have tougher laws....the rest of the state is pretty much country
and is a bit more friendly to our type.....

I'm going to try and get up there when they open on Sat.

It's about the only place to find standard & oddball ammo at a reasonable (or somewhat more reasonable) price.

yourang

When is the syracuse show?
Can a guy from NYC get a shotgun there?

A little off topic, but I'll be going to CT this weekend. Are there any 100 and 200 yard ranges near or within 50 miles of the NY border where I can shoot?

I will be there with my brother coming from Hopewell Junction.

edit- There is a public 100yd range in Cortlandt Manor, NY.

i will be there on the 6th, a bit of a drive for me from Hudson but with the Poughkeepsie show being no more, its my closest option.

Anyone know what the laws are in NY. Can a NYC resident purchase at the gun show?

Yes I went today. I got what I thought was a good deal on some ammo 1000 rounds of Fiocchi 55 gr 5.56 $350 there were some other good deals on ammo too. A couple tables with overpriced AR lowers. It was pretty good.

i didn't have a good time today. i got told to come back tomorrow when I asked if the price on an AR was negotiable. he said he might not want to load it up on his truck. plus it stunk like the subway and as about 100 degrees.

"!00 yard range in area?"

Yes, as previously posted there's one in Cortland Manor. It's Blue Mt. Sportsman Center, near Peekskill, NY run by the Westchester Co. Recreation Dept. To be honest, it's kind of a PITA place, i.e., 1 round at a time, the range attendant is all over you, and a fee of $8/hr if I remember correctly.

Although it's only 50 yards, the Wooster Mt. range in Danbury CT is a much nicer place to shoot.

Yes, a NYC resident can buy a long arm at the show, but you probably have to register it with NYC before you can legally bring it into the city.

I went to the show Sat morning. It was OK in the sense of something interesting to do, but the ammo prices were high, with only one dealer having any significant quantity. No outstanding bargains in either ammo or guns thrust themselves into my path.

Probably 1/3 of the booths were not firearms related: flashlights, chinese small tools, jerky, nazi memorabilia, hot sauces, all of which I can do with out.

Several of the regular vendors were not there, which may have been due to the hurricane rains that were expected.

Most guns were high priced, some higher priced than the local Gander Mountain store - and that means very high. Ammo prices were not as bad though also pretty high, there were some good deals to be found if you looked hard enough. I only picked up some 50 cal ammo cans. Decent price I suppose, 4 cans for 20bucks.

It was hot as Hades inside the hall. I was soaked when I got out. I guess it was so hot because for $9.00 they did not think we paid enough for them to put in and turn on some fans, and because it was crowded so lots of body heat.

All in all though I had a good day. I went with my son brendan, two friends, and we met yet another firend at the show. Good time all around.
