M-44 & Yugo Gun Show Purchases

I picked up two rifles today at a gun show. Didn’t do as well as I would have liked (price), but I think I did okay. First I picked up a Mosin Nagant M44 in very nice condition. All matching numbers & a laminated stock for $110. (Are the laminated stocks original on the 44?). The dealer said they increase the price a little. I then picked up a Yugo SKS imported by Century. Packed in cosmoline. The dealer said that it was not unissued, but was excellent condition. The numbers seem to match for the most part. They match on the receiver, bolt, & stock. I do not see a number on the magazine. The number at the top rear of the receiver cover is a different number than anywhere else. Are there numbers anywhere else? It is an E serial number and the grenade launcher has the holes at the tip. I paid $110 for this one also. Overall I’m pretty happy with these purchases. I was hoping to spend a little less on the Mosin, but I liked the stocks. I did see some others for are 80-90 dollars. I will spend the rest of the evening cleaning cosmoline on the Yugo & post a couple of pictures after I get them cleaned.

Sounds like ya done good.

My own gun show purchases today were an AK LULA for $19.90 and a TAC trigger for $35. The seller had mismarked the LULA. The others on his table were marked $25 and the dealer was surprised to see that one of his fellow employees had screwed up. Oh well, my gain. The TAC trigger was more of an impulse buy, which I already have a feeling will get tossed into a drawer rather quickly.

There was a dealer at one of the two gunshows in town today who had 8 police trade-in Rem 870's with 18.5" barrels for $200. If I had the cash, one of them would be sitting in my gun cabinet right now.

Another dealer was trying to sell a Rem 700 PSS (.308, 26" bull bbl.) for $1250. Every other dealer there had the same rifle for about $850.

A buddy and I went halfsies on 500 rounds of 55 gr. FMJ .223 from Georgia Arms. I think I'm gonna go back tomorrow and get another whole can for myself though.

There was a RRA CMP upper NIB for $650...but Sableco has it for like $550ish, I'm debating whether to pay the shipping and order from them or take the checkbook with me tomorrow. I need some 20 round AR mags and some cleaning gear, I'll look for that tomorrow too.

Good to hear others are having some fun at the shows. I got the Yugo completely disassembled and cleaned this evening. Including taking the bolt apart. It was gunked up pretty well, but cleaned up fairly easy. I'm happy with it overall. The bore is pristine. The stock on the other hand is mediocre. I've seen a lot nicer, including some for the same price today. I took a chance because I liked the grain, but would have probably prefered one of the others now that it's cleaned up. Not bad though, darker than many that I've seen. I'm completely satisfied with the Mosin. It appears to be all matching numbers (bolt, receiver, floorplate, buttstock), and the laminate stock is nice. The bore cleaned up pretty well, although it is not as bright as the SKS. The riflings appear very sharp. It is dated 1944 & has the older type of bayonet lug (without the 2nd ear). Are the M-44 carbines dated by year, or do they all say 1944?

local guy has the unissued yugo sks for 120 bucks...plus tax of course.you did ok.stuff at shows seems to be a bit high from what I hear.things havent changed there.
