I went to a gun show last week and came across a Savage .17 hmr, Model 93R17-F. It's new and I was quoted a price of $209.00 OTD. I didn't buy it.

I'm going to another gun show tomorrow and this same dealer will be there. I'm taking along my Beretta U22 Neos pistol in excellent condition with extra mag and hardshell case. I'm going to make a trade offer for the Savage Model 93R17-F. What would you consider a good trade?

In my neck of the woods, you would likely be offered 1/2 of the FMV of your gun, regardless of what it is. I do not sell/trade with dealers. I am sick of having my time wasted and being lowballed. They always stop you at the shows, want to fondle the gun, then try to point out any and every flaw or explain to you why your gun is undesirable and worthless. Sell your gun outright to someone who will give you close to its FMV and buy what you like.

I'll second the "lowball" comment. I always have a number in my head for what I think it is worth (Based on research). Then, I try to stick to it. When I start getting the B.S. I walk away.

Also, dont be affraid to jump in and call B.S. if you see someone getting screwed. Don't let the wolves pick the sheep off 1 by 1.

If someone starts that game with me I tell them to forget it. If its not worth the price I'm asking to them then they shouldn't be wasting my time. I also understand that you won't get a premium price selling at certain places though. I tried to trade at a gun show and I was taking 1/2 what the gun was really worth and the guy still tried to undercut me even further. Then he acted like he was doing me a favor. (I was trading a practically new Bersa Thunder 9mm and I was taking 150 trade in. He tried to get me to go down to 100.)

I was offered $179.00 for my Beretta U22 Neos, I passed. But, I have to give the dealer credit for not making me feel like that's all my gun was worth. He flat out told me, you can $200.00 or maybe a little more if you sell it to an individual, but that's the best I can do.

I went to my first show today (in IL), to say I was underwhelmed is an understatement. The wares were mostly shabby looking and the pricing for the most part seemed at least as high as the LGS if not more.

I went to a gun show in Springfield MO this past weekend and I traded a Finnish Mosin for a Russian SKS plus 80 bucks, not bad for a gun I gave 60 bucks for orginally:evil:
