I was up last night watching some gun shows on the History channel and here are some of the stupid things I caught:

1. Do yall remember the bank shootout with the guys and the AK-47's? Well they said, " They came out the bank spraying .308 rounds wildly with their AYEE-KAY 47 assault rifles."

2. "The M-16 is the most powerful assault rifle ever created."

3." A .44 magnum will break your wrist."

4." A .44 magnum is the most powerful handgun in the world."

5." The AR-15 is extremely reliable."

:scrutiny: :scrutiny: :scrutiny: :scrutiny: :scrutiny:

My Answers To These:

1. They didnt come runnin out there with cetmes, pal!!

2. WRONG!!!!!!

3. No, no,no.

4. Ya feelin lucky, punk.........huh, were did that come from!

5. Bwahahahaha!!!!!!!!! Ok...Ok they are reliable but I expected them to be as reliable as an AK

I enjoy watching The History of the Gun Shows. Were all these goofs on just one episode? Sure would be nice if the writers of the show actually checked their information for accuracy before putting it in the script. Could these writers be anti-gun?

Unfortunately the History Channel doesn't do that much research and basically just puts whatever sounds interesting from each talking head into each show. If you watch a show on Remingtons you'll hear about how everybody in the Civil War loved their New Models. If you watch one about Colt it'll be the other way around. Likewise Spencer rifles and Henry rifles are alternatively billed as the gun you could "load on sunday and shoot all week."

Well...the AK does shoot a 7.62mm diameter bullet, so does a .308...to an ignorant (read non-gun nut) producer he may lump all 7.62 in as .308.

The AR is more than reliable enough for battlefield usage in current configurations and an argument could be made for it being the most powerful as well given that it shouldn't be compared to a full sized battle rifle such as the G3 etc.

The .44mag WAS the most powerful mass produced handgun in the world when it was introduced.

I suppose if you were calcium deficient you could break your wrist with an improper hold and a hot load in a .44mag.

I am aware of the fact that it's .311 and not .308 however, when you go to the shop and purchase ammo for it you purchase 7.62X39. The .308 is also sold at the same shop as 7.62X51....now some people know 7.62X51 as .308, ergo they see an article on an AK in some newspaper somewhere wherein it's stated that the AK is a semi-auto assault rifle that fires 7.62mm rounds and they think hey....nato uses a 7.62, also known as a .308 and bingo......

And by the way, you can, and some people do, reload for SKSs and AKs using a .308 bullet. I don't reload myself but I know it can and has been done.

Well,

9 m&m, I have to agree alot of what we see on these shows is pure B.S.. However in the LA shootout one of the suspects was armed with a HK 91 A3 (collapsable stock) rifle. It is a .308. The weapon was hit by a LAPD 9mm round and disabled early on in the shootout.

So that much "WAS" true. as far as the rest of the stuff... Well....... .............UW

In the Magnum episode, there are 2 guys that are shooting a .454 Casull. The one guy has his arm completely stiff, but his wrist really limp... it looked like it was going to break his wrist. The other guy did much better.

Other than the minor little things, I really liked their line-up last night.

Even with some of the yahoos that call themselves experts there still is quite a good amount of neutral if not pro gun info on these shows.

I wish they would make some new ones though.
