gun store stories.

Just yesterday I saw this go down at my local shop while I was waiting for my background check.

Customer: I'm looking for a carry gun for my wife, was thinking something bigger than a .380
Sales Guy: (asking lady) let me see your hands
Lady Customer: (Hold up hands)
Sales Guy: Oh yeah, she can totally handle a 9mm.

I almost think gun stores operate in an alternate reality.
In my past life I once sold cheap rings. I learned to look at hands. People who have used thier hands a lot have stronger hands and larger fingers. I noticed obesity did not affect hands like it did the rest of the body. A trim little gymnist will usually have heavily built hands. A plump round girl might hve rather delicate hands. I didn't think of this when I later worked in a gun store but I should have

bigbore.

I know I act different because it kinda ticks me off. im far from being a thief. I have a criminal justice degree, worked many years in section 8 housing authority, bank guard, armored truck guard. I mentioned it to him one day awhile back and that's how I found out he is retired LEO. a buddy was looking for a handgun and I said m&p and the guy asked why and I said that's what I carry and he said I like glock or something. I'm a retired cop, I said oh I work section 8, etc we carry m&p. he probably doesn't remember just sees my 6ft6 300lbs butt in there all the time so he watches me.
Dude, he thinks you're a bug. I do not mean back-up gun. To him, you're not a "real LEO" like he was, and in his mind, "bugs" are mentally unstable. That's why he watches you.

I'm a retired cop too. I have found that being a retired cop and about $2.25 will get me a cup of coffee:)

Gotta love all the retired, and active, cop firearms experts. Guess I'm not an expert, nobody cares what I carried. Within my humble experience, about 90% of officers have very little interest in, or knowledge of, firearms beyond what they carry, train and qualify with. Much more interest in sports, fantasy football and video games, especially among the younger officers.......ymmv

what exactly does that have to do with anything? never said I was a LEO. he wanted to know why I like M&P SO I TOLD HIM. there are the I'm a cop or was a cop and your a security guard so I'm better than you ..... heads and there are the guys who understand that I want to be in that field but developed some medical issues that made me go from 240-300lbs so I have to work that off to be able to pass the academy. like I told a local cop one day working section 8 housing by myself when he said the real cops are here go check some doors or something. had they actually do their jobs instead of sit at the dept until a call comes in they wouldn't need to hire armed guards to patrol an apartment complex. the other guys liked me and understood me and some thought they were better than me. well I eat, sleep, breath and put my pants on one leg at a time like he does so why treat me different because how I choose to pay my bills.

I'm just sayin', some cops think that way, and his actions appear to bear that out.

I'm not saying it's right, it's not. But there are some cops that think that way, and it would seem he is one. You can't control his attitude, just yours. I'd personally ignore him or have some fun with him as others have described.;)

They must be doing something right to be able to open multiple stores. I'd probably let the owner know if you happen to have any type of relationship with him. If I ran the store I'd be interested to know one of my employees was acting that way to a fruequent customer

My LGS has kind of an interesting dynamic. The owner can be kind of a prick. Occasionally he's friendly and other days he acts like asking him a generic question is a huge burden. If you try and negotiate anything it makes him mad. His son is the exact opposite - friendly and willing deal on anything. He enjoys banter and greets me each time I stop by. If it wasn't for the son being there I'm sure I'd rarely visit. This day in age it's so easy to buy online. The only advantage small brick and mortar stores offer is exceptional customer service.

I was thinking about some of the have a little fun with him comments. When I was at the apartments a guy had a shirt that said cia and under it said criminal in action. A couple of the guards were dumb enough to believe it. That guy would really get his panties in a bunch if I wore that shirt.

I just remember when I go into big box stores, I'm not asking for advice or their "expertise". We don't have any LGSs in our area that I know of. Growing up we did, but I grew up in a more rural area than I live now.

There's a store near me that employs a person that conveys nothing but contempt and suspicion to customers. I don't go in there very often. Another store, a larger one, actually asked me for ID in order to buy ammo. I refused, walked out, and never returned. As for big box store, well, their policy of not allowing people to carry a purchased gun out of the store, is nothing short of stupid and paranoid. On many levels. There are three guns store near me that I like. One gives out a bible with every gun purchase, another shakes your hand, before you walk out with your purchase, and the third is just, well, cordial to you in a way not seen in many decades.

I have gotten tired of clerks incapable of acting like normal people.

If I were the original poster, I would stop going to that store.

In fact, for a long time I went to my LGS despite the clerks who ranted on every time I went in to buy a few boxes of 9mm or acted suspiciously when people came in and were wandering around.

I'd now rather go to Walmart, and if that LGS fails, they brought it on themselves.

I just let all that stuff go in one ear and out the other.
There is no longer a store here that I care to hang out at. When I go in one of the remainder, I am looking at merchandise for sale. Either they have something I want or they don't. If they do, I buy and move on, if they don't, I just move on.
To not buy something I want because of a snotty clerk would be, as Grandma said, cutting off my nose to spite my face.
