My buddy who lives in CA talked to his local FFL. The dealer told him that it would be okay if my buddy ships a pistol directly to my FFL here in OR. Only if the FFL in OR is contacted and is okay with this arrangement. Then the gun can be transferred to me.

Will this arrangement work ?

Seems pretty fishy to me...I always thought that the transfer from one state to another is required to be conducted by one FFL to another FFL.

That's correct. As long as the receiving FFL is willing to accept the shipment from an individual and the firearm is not illegal in the receiving state it's fine.

I'll bet an FFL holder told you that, too.

Just another way to [strike]gouge the customer[/strike] make more money for them.

You can read the myriad "shipping a gun" stickies and threads here, but to cut to the chase, it's legal for any individual to ship any firearm to any FFL holder.

Some FFL holders won't accept from private individuals for various mythical reasons - none of which actually make any sense.
