The article is referencing "firearms deaths". The world "violence" doesn't appear in the article or the Wikipedia stats. Those deaths include homicide, accidents, suicide and undetermined deaths where a firearm was the cause of death. There's no such thing as 'gun violence'.

Yup. The OP misread the article. He wasn't talking about the report, he was referring to the title of this conversation-
"Gun Violence Compared to Gun Ownership"
The UK rag and Swiss rag appear to have correct enough numbers. The US rag with the link in the OP is the one that is attempting a deception.I agree a UK rag citing a Swiss rag is not a strong foundation for drawing conclusions.
I'm not going to lock it yet but it is close.
I also detest the phrase, "gun violence." I'm tired of us allowing the media to continue its collective attempt to brainwash the populace that guns are the cause of any type of violence.
Saw a headline in a metro paper, "Gun violence leads to another bloody weekend." Really? Maybe instead: "Gang members with criminal records, already illegally possessing (probably stolen) firearms, shot other gang members over the weekend."
Buying into (ourselves using) the buzzwords and catchphrases used by the liberal media and anti-gun factions further allows others to frame the debate in ways we should find highly objectionable and gives them handy little responses and sound-bites they find so convenient in the face of logic and statistics.
A massive amount of gun deaths are Suicides. No gun to do that? Drowning/Step in front of train/bus/truck. Cut wrists and on, and on!
I do not know the numbers, of suicides? 25% but they are not all shootings. And the most homicides? Gang shootings, by criminals, in Gangs, not even legally owned firearms.
So you can take them off the list of owned firearms.
The great majority of gun deaths in the US is suicide. We are #1 in the world for gun suicides. As others mentioned, the great majority of deaths are suicides. The U.S. is ranked 50th in the world for suicides and is way behind other first-world countries like South Korea, Japan, and Finland...countries with strict gun control measures. That's why the quote attributed to Benjamin Disraeli is so apt...."lies, damn lies, and statistics."
And yet the left likes to include them in stats for "children" killed by guns. Sure, they are young, but it isn't little Suzy or Tiwanna being shot by careless family members, it's gang bangers being killed by gang bangers.one stat I read suggested that 80% of all homicides in the US were "gang related".
How are they not children? And yet the left likes to include them in stats for "children" killed by guns. Sure, they are young, but it isn't little Suzy or Tiwanna being shot by careless family members, it's gang bangers being killed by gang bangers.
Let's call it death via firearms. "Firearms deaths" either implies the firearm was at fault, or the firearm died...both of which are incorrect. The article is referencing "firearms deaths". The world "violence" doesn't appear in the article or the Wikipedia stats. Those deaths include homicide, accidents, suicide and undetermined deaths where a firearm was the cause of death.
The thing is, there is nothing "gun related" about any of it. Most all of it is drug/gang related.I think gun related violence is perceived as being so bad because it is a part of the catchy headlines. Gun owners are part of the perception problem as well, preparing for mass shootings when in reality, they are much more likely to be killed by a family member, friend, or somebody known the them.
