I pity the gunshops of Seattle. Seattle just passed a " Gun Violence Tax" on dealers in Seattle. "Under the new Seattle law, gun sellers will be taxed $25 for every gun sold plus 2 or 5 cent taxes on each round of ammunition." The city is hoping to use the tax on research on gun violence and prevention. That's bullcrap!

As I have said before, if you don't like things MOVE AWAY from that mess. Taking away the means to support their flawed thinking and resulting talent exodus of pro 2a citizens is just what they deserve. Those others say that it is unfair to make people move, so I say then you can stay in the cesspool that the anti gun places are becoming and make the best of it. If you really want to get out you WILL find a way. Let the progressive thinkers reap what they sow. The rest of us will not be around to be taken advantage of so enjoy yourself. Pretty simple to me. It is like being in an abusive relationship, things just slowly spiral down till the movement crashes and burns. If things get bad enough the PRO RKBA areas will be where like minded individuals will gravitate to. Darwin will take care of the rest in due time. CA, WA, and NY are fast becoming lost causes for those that are capable of engaging in independent thinking and reason. I am talking about other areas than 2a as well.YMMV

Off soap box.:barf:

The government hasn't learned the lesson of Prohibition. You can't legislate morality. Morality has to come from within.

"The city is hoping to use the tax to put gun shops there out of business". Fixed

The people that want such items will just drive outside the city limits and but what they want. More feel good knee jerk laws that do nothing about the real problems.

Hoping the "crocodile will eat me last" is a poor survival plan, and a worse code for living.

Immediate impulses to stave off pain or danger are often less important than the long-term consequences of running from the fray. Neither history nor experience suggests that mollifying aggressors is helpful.

The gun dealers need to get their lawyers warmed up for the discrimination suit they will have from damages to their businesses from non equitable taxation I'm thinking

This is the correct answer.

It's a win/win for the city, so long as the population remains constant. If the city's residents stop shopping at the city's gun stores and shop elsewhere, then the city gun stores go out of business and the city is happy. If people continue to patronize the city gun stores as a sign of solidarity, then the city just makes more money and again the city is happy. Either way, there is no effective way to make the city sad unless the city loses more tax revenue via a shrinking population (i.e. people flee the repressive city) than it gains from the tax.

I think the violence tax is a great idea, everytime there's an arrest, fine the politicians for failing to protect citizens. Use the revenue to research causes of crime. :)

Excuse me, but the rationale is so flawed. If you want to tax gun "crime", tax the criminals going through the criminal justice system. Place a gun crime fine at the penalty phase of a trial.

What Seattle has right now is a Second Amendment tax. I can't wait for the enactment of a First Amendment tax in Seattle. Freedom isn't free.
