Gun sales and prices in my area are skyrocketing. Gun shoppes are reporting brisk sales and the price of used guns is increasing quite rapidly. I don't think this is unique to the southeast either. I was poking around some old guns for sale threads from the around 2005 to 2006 and I was very surprised to find that many used guns that were $300 - $400 then are $500 to $600 now. With demand and prices up so sharply and inflation taking hold, I am thinking that new gun pricing will start to rise soon too.

Yes there has been others saying the same thing about used gun prices going up at even gun shows.

My suggestion is to compare prices, shop around and when you find the deal to buy it.

I'm selling some of my guns right now. One is a Colt SAA in .44-40. A year ago they were maybe $1,200. Local Cabelas has one for $2,200 and another shop has one for $1,950.

Anything foreign made will be going up dramatically. Just look at a chart of the dollar versus the euro.

The last few shows I've been to, the Antique Winchester shows in Cody, you could still buy Colt SAA's for $1300 NIB. Some guys had higher prices, but they took them home. I don't think many sold at $1300 either. Cabelas is legendary for ridicules prices on guns, particulalry used, and "collectible" types.

There's a couple local shops with SAA's and NF's for around $1300, and they've sat for a long time. One local shop raised his SAA prices, almost double, but he doesnt sell them either.

Haven't really noticed this so much in my area, but prices on internet auctions seem to be going up. Some theories:

1.) Inflation (already mentioned)
2.) Falling dollar (already mentioned)
3.) The internet has increased demand for certain guns (pre-lock and P&R S&W wheelguns, for example)
4.) Increased demand for semi-auto rifles/pistols due to high probability of a Democrat taking the White House and perceived likelihood of new AWB (coupled with dealer scare tactics)
5.) With the economy stumbling, people are liquidating some of their guns to pay the bills and are trying to get the most out of them. Prices haven't yet fallen to meet the demand.
6.) Rise of shall issue CCW laws in many states

i know that when i was in my local shop the other day, it was packed, and people were buying. i'd never seen so many people in there at the same time.

There have been threads like this for months. Shear_stress has about as good a guess as anyone as to why this is happening, although I would like to add:

7.) Shooting is becoming more socially accepted and possible.
