I think the illegal immigrant backlash is premature here. The shooter wouldn't be any less of a criminal had he been a legal citizen (which he may have been). There have been church shooting executed by US citizens several times before, so I think its unfair to imply that it was somehow a foreign influence that was responsible for this.

The real problem is the criminal did not research that guns are not allowed in church. Or maybe the problem is just the opposite and he knew exactly that. Shame on him for not following lesser laws like keeping firearms out of prohibited locations when he is planning to commit major crimes like murder.

Does he not realize that on top of multiple life sentences or the death penalty or being shot by officers on the spot he can also get charged with that offense?!

I think it shows we need to double ban them, perhaps triple ban them, and add a permiter of banned proximity for so many feet or even miles around them. It might make legaly driving through a neighborhood or any city for any distance while transporting a firearm illegal, but that is a risk we have to be willing to take, after all CA does it for schools, shouldn't you do it for churches?
If for some reason that is not effective then it will be because those bans are not enforced by strict enough consequences and sentences and we will need to make it a serious felony crime to show we are tough on crime and further deter criminals intent on mass murder from coming to the gun free zone.
