Not a very reliable article. Rhode Island is listed as a may issue state but its shall issue and we have no restrictions on where you can carry.

I am only familiar with the laws of my state and the surrounding area, and they had accurate information for those.

Virginia placed about where I thought.

One interesting point is that in the top half, there's only a 5-point spread in points out of fifty. Unless you have a specific touchpoint, any of the top half are suitably gun friendly.

couldnt follow link but im sure my state is near the top. Proud to go unnoticed in every aspect of politics at this time. Im really having trouble recognizing my country right now

The score for Virginia should have been higher. For example, the State Police registration requirement for NFA items applies only to machine guns, and is an after-the-fact formality. You can't look only at the laws on the books, but must also consider the way that they're actually applied.

One weakness in this survey is that it's a "snapshot" of the laws at a given point in time, and fails to take into account the political atmosphere going forward. (Look at what happened in Colorado -- who would have thought.) The prospect of further restrictions is a paramount consideration when making a decision of whether to locate in a state.

This artical is sort of like when you get a cell phone today, and it is outdated by tomorrow. I live in Colorado, we scored very poor and if they were to look again we would even be worse. Their are also other poorly run states that are turning their backs on the Constitution or planing to do so as we speak not to mention that bunch of libs in D.C.. Yes this is happining right in front of our eyes and happining very fast. Vote in 2014

I was surprised Virginia ranked that far down the list ...

24. Virginia
CCW/Open Carry: 8
MSRs: 8
Class 3/NFA: 8
Castle Doctrine: 10
Miscellaneous: 10
TOTAL: 44

A Shall-Issue CCW state, Virginia has reciprocity or agreements to honor CCWs of 27 states. There is no requirement to notify law enforcement you’re carrying, and open carry is generally legal. Semi-automatic shotguns with folding stocks and 12-round magazines are prohibited, but there are no other restrictions on MSRs or magazine capacity. NFA firearms must be registered with the State Police. Virginia is a Stand Your Ground state.

Virginia is a Stand Your Ground state. ... I think they got this wrong ...

So, Vermont and Arizona are in a numerical tie, but the judges put Arizona on top. I'd wager this is because Vermont is also the most liberal state in the country.

I'd have to disagree with this ranking, however, as Arizona is a Johnny-come-lately to constitutional carry and has that only by legislative action, it can be repealed as easily as it was granted.

Vermont has had constitutional carry longer than the US Constitution has been around. This right is affirmed in the state constitution dating to 1777, and the right has been upheld by the state Supreme Court for over 100 years. The language of the VSC ruling also bars the implementation of almost all other forms of gun control. Thus, the only means of moving backward on gun rights in Vermont is a constitutional amendment.

Wow, PA ended up #20. They failed to mention that Open Carry is legal in PA without a permit sans motor vehicle.

Wow. We got #31. I figured we were better than that.
Yeah, we got glossed-over in that poll. We're introducing and enacting new pro-gun legislation quickly. Latest sealing CHCL permit holders info, as you know.

Perhaps there aren't a lot of guns-n-ammo subscribers here? ;)

NM was ranked 36 by virtue of requiring a class for ccw, and no laws guarding against being sued if you use in self defense. However when is training a bad thing ? Also a good shoot is a good shoot only if you can't be sued ? Open carry has long been allowed, and normally if you are involved in a self defense shooting, the judges and juries tend to be on the side of the legitimate use of a firearm.

They list Ohio as #35? That's bull trash. I think we're pretty gun friendly.

They did get the "no magazine capacity" limit incorrect though. You can't have a magazine with a capacity larger than 30+1 inserted into a firearm here.

OC is not limited to cars in Maine, and if you have enough brain cells to rub together the laws regarding use of force are not that difficult to figure out. This article was not well researched.

I see the people who don't like the poll had thier state ranked low. Ky is one of the lowest ranked in education, glad we made the top 5 for something.
