Guns and water.

How much does rain/heavy fog really affect a guns ability to shoot? Obviously it's wise to clean it thoroughly asap but will it affect it immediatly.
Revos and Bolt actions would work but I'm thinking some autoloaders might be hindered. An old m1 carbine used to get stuck every two rounds. I'm not sure what the term is but the bolt would stay in the rear position, a light push downward on the bullet next in line made it ready to go but it was annoying and a little scary because I thought I broke something. Never tried any pistols in the rain. Just a thought since you see so many darn movies and tv shows with guns that get soaked....sometimes completely submerged

COrrosion issues aside, shouldn't be an issue with any modern semi-auto or revolver.

Shouldn't affect reliability at all.

As has been said, a little water shouldn't affect anything but a muzzle loader. They tend to go "Pffft" rather than "boom" in the rain, but anything else needs to be fixed or replaced. I've hunted in wet and cold weather that froze my shotgun bolt closed, holding the fore-end and whacking the butt into the ground freed things up nicely. No harm. no foul, and I got a second shot.

Well, maybe it will be the issue in long term, as the unprotected or scratched places tend to rust? Or the dried water will leave salt behind that may also start to make jams in long term. Sorry, no experience with long-term wet guns so these are just guestimates (if anyone knows better then correct).

Around here, if I weren't willing to shoot in the rain, I'd never shoot at all.

Short-term, I've never had any gun malf due to pouring rain. I've had them malf due to bad ammunition, dirt in the works, poor design, thick gloves slowing down the slide, and other such annoyances. But so far as I know, rain's never yet been the culprit.

Long-term, if you dry the gun before you leave the range, it'll never rust.

Not that I would know anything about rust ... I carry a Glock.

(To be honest, though, I have a few other guns on hand now. I dry & oil before leaving the range. No problem.)

I wouldn't be worried about salt coming from the rain.
