Iv heard that some PXs are now selling firearms, dose anybody know if the PX at Fort Leonard Wood or Jefferson City do?

Way back in the 60s, when I was in the infantry in Germany, the PX did not sell guns. However...
One could go to the "Rod and Gun Club", Which was an on-post store that was a combined bar and sporting goods store.

I am not kidding.

You could slide up to the bar, have a beer or two, and then go into the back room to examine the weapons for sale. I bought a bunch; prices were extremely good.....

That's nice history but doesn't help the OP.

Those days at the Ramstein Rod & Gun Club, and others, were great. Alas, they are long gone.

ccaleb67 I work fulltime for the National Guard here on Fort Leonard Wood and found out just yesterday that Yes the PX here on Post is now selling Firearms, and not just Rifles and Shotguns they are also selling a large number of Pistols as well.

nice, i might have to run up[ to Ft Lenoardwood sometime again to pick up stuff from the px, any used guns for sale up there or all retail new guns?

they have a small counter at the BX on JBER (what used to be Fort Richardson)
but it's Alaska....
and yes, they were 'new' guns, BUT the would order pretty much ANYTHING in
and carried a surprising variety of surplus arms from Century and such.

Thank you for the info! I am currently in the Missouri National Guard RSP. Do you know how old you have to be to buy guns on base? I know state law is 18 for long arms and 21 for handguns, are there more restrictions on NG personnel?

Just give them a call or visit. Best info is straight from the horse's mouth.

In Tx, the same rules apply for purchase (18/21). I haven't been 18 or 21 in a while but if I recall correctly, the same laws apply for purchase on post. In Tx, if you're military but under 21, you can't purchase a handgun but are allowed to carry one with a CHL.

Might be the same in MO. Just make the call and find out.

18 and 21 are federal, not state imposed, restrictions on firearms purchases, so will apply on post/base.

"Sale of a Handgun or Handgun Ammunition to a Person Under Age 21: You may not sell or de- liver a firearm other than a rifle or a shotgun—or ammunition other than rifle or shotgun ammuni- tion—to a person who you know or have reasonable cause to believe is less than 21 years old. A firearm frame or receiver is not a rifle or shotgun and may not be sold to a person under 21 years old." - http://www.atf.gov/publications/download/p/atf-p-5300-15.pdf

As far as PX gun sales, last I saw was Ft. Bliss about a year ago, and prices were pretty high, even considering the lack of sales tax. They also won't ship to another FFL, so the AR and NG guys that only get to see a full-line PX during AT aren't able to partake if they go out of state.

BX at MacDill will sell guns

They've got the gun counter, the gun supplies, the gun magazines (both kinds), the gun safes, and soon they will have the guns.

Problem is, they just put South Tampa Shooter, just outside the main gate, out of business. Eric at STS is a good guy. Everyone should go buy something from him so he doesn't have a lot of stuff left over when he closes his door at the end of the year.

Our Exchange here on Ellsworth opened a year, year and a half ago. Thet sell handguns, rofles, shotguns and a limited variety of ammo. About the only difference I see in prices is the saving on sales tax. Age rules apply.
Just the mention of the Ramstein Rod and Gun gives me a head ache from thinking about that Frankenthaler snap caps they sold there. My time there was 1963-66.

Yep, every stateside and european airbase I was at had a Rod and Gun Club. Most had some sort or range on site, or had arrangements to use the base ranges.

And, prices were good, if you had a civilian's salary. In the days before the military started to get some pretty good raises (yea, I know they haven't kept up, again), a low ranking enlisted man didn't get much pay. Married guys got some extra benefits, but still, most wifes worked to make ends meet, and from time to time they simply didn't.

Ft Bragg has a large area in the sporting goods shop, but I've heard from employees that the base CG does'nt like it! Ft Jax and Ft Lee also has a good selection. Prices are so so.

The BX at Mountain Home Air Force base here in Idaho is also selling firearms now. They have all the big brands. Taurus, S&W, Ruger, Glock, Remington, Springfield, Browning and so on. When I was in the Army (1986-2000) I used to hear about the "Good Old Days" when you could buy firearms through AAFES. I never though those days would return. wow.

I too miss the old Rod and Gun clubs in what was then West Germany. :)

For our military guys, the state Glock Law Enforcement dealers will sell you the LE Glocks for LE prices. It's $398 and applicable sales taxes.

I bought a new S&W K22 at the px Goose Bay Labrador 1953 for 55 bucks. Was at Mountain Home A.F.B. 1951-52 Don't remember if the sold guns then.
