I keep ALL my guns loaded. That way there is no confusion as to it's sstatus. If I remove them to shoot, or clean, I will unload them at that point.

Everything in the safe is unloaded

BUT I keep an 870 HD concealed in the bedroom ready to go at night. It gets secured in the morning.

All firearms in stored state are unloaded. But all home defense firearms concealed at the ready in locations known only to me, are loaded.

You need an option on your polled for some are loaded and some aren't loaded.

Aside from the that all guns are loaded mantra, Guns in my safe that I regularly take to the range are unloaded. Guns that don't go to the range are loaded w/ empty chambers and my HD shotgun and my CCW/nightstand gun are ready to go but aren't in my safe..

Home defense and carry guns always loaded. Everything else, always unloaded. Seems to me that when you get a collection of any real size, keeping them ALL loaded just invites a problem.

I keep my handguns loaded with one in the chamber.
One by the bed.. and one by my desk.
The AR sits with mags beside it ready to grab and load in an instant.
I don't have a safe, though I'd like one eventually. But this is a kid free house.

I don't see much point in having a firearm if at least one isn't loaded and ready to use at a moments notice.

Now if I had more than 3 then I'd most likely keep the rest unloaded with ammo right beside it the way I keep the AR.

I like that you added that yours is a "kid free" house. I hope that everyone on here that has loaded weapons in drawers and such have no kids under 13 or so in their home. Kids under 6 do not have the cognative abilities to understand the full ramifications of a deadly accident no matter how much you teach them and those pre-teens...well we wall know how well they listen. :)

I have 1 loaded gun in the safe. It's my carry gun a Sig 226/9mm. It is in the holster I carry it in.

All the rest are empty. I do keep loaded mags in there for the AR's, both the 9mm and 223's.

In my main gun safe, the guns are unloaded, and no ammo is stored with them.

In my bedroom gun safe, at least one handgun and one shotgun are loaded and ready at all times. If I'm feeling paranoid, a loaded evil black rifle will be in there too. Reloads for all guns are also there.

Ammo is stored separately in a dedicated ammo locker, padlocked, in another room.

There are only trained adults in my home. The self defense firearms are loaded and secreted.

When visited by outsiders, other precautions are taken.

Like cracked butt, I have a few magazines ready for whatever may come around the next corner in time (hopefully nothing bad). If I drilled myself right now from where I'm sitting at this computer, it would take me a total of about 10 seconds to get to the cabinet, load, and ready the weapon. But I could save a few seconds if I reach for the already loaded 870. All that's required there is a pump and safety off. Or if I'm really feeling lazy, I'll just reach into my holster, pull out my pistol and BOOM! ;)

Two rifles in the front of the safe are loaded, one for me, one for the Mrs. The rest are unloaded, but have loaded mags in the ammo locker.

One of the 6 mil-surp "wall hangers" is also loaded, just in case a bear shows up, like that shotgun lamp from "The Great Outdoors."

I have a few pistols that stay loaded. Mainly because they are part of my CCW carry rotation. I do not have any loaded long guns, although the mags for the AR-15 are kept loaded and could be put to use rather quickly.

I do the exact same thing, except I keep my AR-15 with a mag in it, but not chambered.

Most Are Unloaded, Some Are Ready to Fire

You left out the option that I would have voted for....

Out of 15, or so, readily accessible handguns on the interior of the safe door, I usually keep all of them unloaded, but two or three of them are ready to be fired. You never know when someone may ambush you and get you to open your safe. I also have the safe angled in the corner of the room, so I can use the door for cover, if I have to.

Any weapon in my safe is unloaded. I do keep a home defense weapon (Taurus .357 mag) in a smaller safe (one of thos elittle electronic finger touch safes) next to the bed that is loaded and ready to go.

ditto ... love my little "Gun Vault" ... kiddies are safe and I'm ready to go.

Mixed bag, I mean safe

some are and some are not
Handguns are loaded, long guns have ammo on buttstock (sp?) carrier.

Handguns will keep them off me until I load up. My theory is that most of my threats would be a shorter range shot.

All of my guns are stored in the safe.....

and they are loaded. The only time they are unloaded is right after I shoot them or right after I inspect them to see if they are unloaded...........chris3
