Hi, I just read a rather thought provoking article that also tended to make my blood boil at times. In the article it says people really do not need guns. Another person says that people have no right to use guns to defend themselves against wild animals in the park, if they think this way they should stay home. Being tracked by a bear, myself, on a trail on the ORegon coast, I know this guy is complete moron and thinks wild animals are predictable. I wonder if it was his own child attacked, if he would still talk like this.

Its really disgusting, everyone from law enforcement, forest rangers, to anti-gun libs promoting an agenda that only rangers should have the right to defend themselves, but citizens deserve to be victims. he says if people carried guns, everyone would start using them on each other. Its insane. I am so sad, but I will never go visit Mt Rainier National Park because of these draconian laws that go against my constitutional rights.

I would like to ask a forest ranger why they feel they need a gun hiking in the woods, but the rest of us, who may even be more well trained with a gun, cannot have one?

“There should be places where we don’t have to worry about people running around with guns. It should be a sanctuary,” she said. “The national parks should have that feel, a place you can go and not worry about the person in front of you on the trail having a gun.”

Unless you can frisk every person who comes to this forest and impose North Korea like regulations on the citizens entering the park, the sanctuary you dream of is really a prison camp to the law abiding citizens. I highly doubt every person is going to be happy with a strip search at each parking lot or trail entrance. I met a woman who was raped and left for dead in the forest, the forest rangers were no where to be found.

Anyone have news about current updates on leglislation with carrying guns to Mt Rainier?

every time a crime [or animal attack] happens to an unarmed person, they should sue the blazing hades out of the National Park system. If elected officials voted for this,we need to know who they are,so that we never vote for them again.I hear the NRA is on to this,I await developments.

I thought carry in national parks was O.K. now? I could have sworn a ruling was made on that sometime last year. Am I off base or was a decision postponed?

liberal Brady bunch sued to get an injunction based on "environmental" grounds. Apparently, carrying a gun under your shirt has a more dramatic environmental impact than hiking, riding, and camping in N.P.'s! But believe it or not, they found a liberal judge who agreed (you should read the court opinion - it is laughable).

NRA has appealed the injunction and we are waiting. But it is currently banned to carry in any NP based on the injunction.

These people make me nauseous.

There should be places where we don’t have to worry about people running around with guns.

While true, it'll never happen, but the image of people, "running around", with guns is funny.
Prohibiting legal guns = only criminals with guns in the park. Surely they realize this? Nope.

...not worry about the person in front of you on the trail having a gun.

What's there to worry about. Just cowboy up and keep your nose out of my business, and I'll do the same.

I know, I know... I'm preaching to the choir.

been to many nat. parks.
never needed a gun.
always had mine anyway.
called cc for a reason.

Ill-advised behavior. Wait till it's legal again.
If caught, it would be terribly bad press for gun rights proponents, and you'll lose your permit.

People were running around with guns in wild places long before any laws on the matter...:fire:

Why, I never even thought to bring a gun up on Rainier when I was there hiking. Never even occurred to me.

Nope.

Why do people need guns in Rainier, its a sanctuary right? Only rangers and law enforcment should have the right to protect themselves from two legged and four legged predators.

The rest of us can just click our heels three times and say there is no place like home and we will magically be saved by the wizard and his little friends.

I like the wife of this detective lady in the article to meet a girl I met who was gangraped in the forests of Michigan and had her friend who was almost beaten to death and permanently damaged from being hit by a crowbar. These hypocrites never want a gun to protect your family, unless their own family suffers. They don't care about the lives of other human beings, naive you may call it.
