Well to SA , Combat... - Here's the scoop - since I live here also.
1. Nagels - expensive and a touch of attitude. Lots of posturing. You can do better.
2. Dury's - prices are OK for a gun store but you can do a touch better on new guns. Used guns are ok and they have very friendly and competent service - recommended.
3. If you want a standard item or a trade:
a. The big box stored don't do trades - but some have decent store prices. Check out Academy, Sportsman's Warehouse - you do have to drive some but there is an Academy near Lackland. You do have to drive around town but it isn't hard. Bass Pro is expensive.
b. The Saxet shows - next one is Feb. 14. It is on the top of the city at the Alfarzar shrine on 1604. Google Saxet. The Live Oak shows - as far away usually aren't that hot. The Saxet show is also on the south side some months in the old Auditorium - google Saxet again.
That's the best avenue for a trade - Might check out AJC - I've traded decently with them - but bargain, bargain, bargain - remember there is still alot of Obamania at the shows.
The other stores - there is Ho's on Culebra - might see what he would do.
If you can - come join the San Antonio shooting scene. Almost every discipline is here on weekends. IDPA, IPSC, steel challenge, carbine, cowboys, skeet.
Look at:

www.krtraining.com - area FAQ, the Bullethole,
www.texastactical.net for a start and come out.
Lots of service people shoot with us and we are very friendly to newcomers to the area.
If you look at the pictures on rivercity - you can see me. The older guy with the beard who looks well fed - wait - that's most of us.
