guns that exceeded your expectations

6.5 Swedish Mausers. I always seem to hit what I'm aiming at with those things.

Ditto! I bought one back when they were cheap, and it is a fantastic shooter.

Oh, wait. Handguns? The S&W 642 is outstanding for its purpose--smooth working, reliable and simple. Shoots pretty straight for a DAO snubnose, too.

I took a chance on a trade for a Taurus PT709 and it has been very reliable and very accurate. I am very happy with it and would highly recommend it to someone. God Bless :)

I shoot the 1911's best but have fired and owned dozens of other brands and models. I kept looking for a 9mm that felt as good and performed as well as the 1911 but just about gave up until I tried the Ruger "P" series.

I traded for a Ruger P85 Mark 2 and found the one that clicked for me. For some reason, I can keep the gun on target, function with the trigger and get an accurate round off better with the "P" series pistols than any other. I managed to acquire several other "P" series pistols and the answer is the same. They shoot great for me! The Ruger P 85 Mark 2 started me onto the "P" series pistols and exceeded all expectations!

Sig Sauer SP2022, was looking for a inexpensive carry pistol, and it turned out to be one heck of a gun, very accurate and well priced, I use a crossbreed IWB holster to conceal it. Far exceeded my expectations.

The gun that I feel the most comfortable with and that I trust for its reliability is my Glock 23 Gen 4. I have never had a malfunction of any kind with it. I have used all kinds of ammo, including expensive and cheaper than dirt. I am able to shoot it accurately and it is quite comfortable to carry in a Crossbreed Supertuck holster (horsehide). If I could only have one pistol this would be it. The bullets go where I tell them to every time I pull the trigger...what else can I say.

Thru many years since 1957? Hmmm. Exceeded my expectations were:

1. colt commander - darned thing was actually fun.
2. colt python - i thought it was just another revolver till i tried one. now I've got 3.
3. browning hi-power - even an old fart like me can use it.
4. ruger sp-101 - what can i say? 3-5-7!
5. bersa thunder 9 HC - super exceeded my expectations! affordable, accurate, all-around. I love my grandkids.

My M25-7 in 45 LC. I had poor accuracy with my Colt New Service revolvers in 45 LC and the M25-5 that I traded for the M25-7. My expectations for the 45 LC were very low, but it was due to the older pistols having huge chamber mouths, not the cartridge itself. Smith and Wesson changed their ball mouth diameters in this pistol and that made a remarkable difference in accuracy.

I have pushed at least 10 thousand rounds of 250/255 LRN 8.5 grains Unique, this revolver is very accurate, the trigger has smoothed out to a 2.5 lb pull, I love the 5” heavy barrel as it tames the recoil and gives a good sight radius.

Taurus PT1911. Expectations weren't real high (got it as a fun shooter, not for defense use). It has been totally reliable, and very accurate.

Exceeding Expectations:

Every 3rd gen S&W auto I've ever bought, except one (internet purchase police-trade 3913 that had a shot-out barrel, and 3913 replacement barrels are +/- $100 and hard to get).

A S&W M65-5, 3" bbl that is now my favorite farm-carry sidearm, bought used.

A S&W 637-2, 2-1/2"bbl that is my favorite pocket-carry.

A S&W 617-1, 6"bbl, bought used, ...It is amazingly accurate.

Exceeded. A S&W Model 25-5 in .45LC. I use it now for target shooting and have some loads that will take game, thanks to John Linebaugh.

A S&W Model 15. Funny thing, was that when I was first a police officer many, many years ago, I was issued a Model 15 and could not hit with it. A few years back now, I bought a 15 out of nostalgia. I still could not hit with it. However, once again, thanks to some teaching from Linebaugh, 100 yard shots at water bottles are not out of the question with a hit almost every time.

Taurus PT1911. I had been a revolver guy for ages. Never had a 1911. Got the PT1911 as the price was right. It shoots better than I can. I use it for target, too. It's a fun gun. Now I know why you 1911 guys love the 1911!

Iver Johnson PT-22. I've taken bear at 600 yards with this little .22. One shot drops.

Nah, just kidding about the last one. The first three though, super!

The Doc is out now.

Exceeded expectations:
Ruger LCP
Kahr PM9
BHP 40
CZ PCR
Phoenix Arms HP22a
All my Llamas

Met expectations:
Almost every pistol I currently own.

To me, price has a lot to do with expectations.
If I spend $1000 on a pistol, I expect more than if I spent
$300 on one. If I spend $3000 on a gun I surely expect more
than if I spent $1500 on one. It's all relevant.

Smith and Wesson Bodyguard .380. Bought it for my wife for less than $350. Thought that I'd be disappointed, but it shoots very well. No malfunctions yet (300 rounds through it), and can consistently put six rounds in a 3 inch Birchwood Casey at 25 feet.

I'd say CZ82. I wasn't expecting much from a $175 gun, but this thing is rock-solid reliable and ridiculously accurate.

S&W Model 60, .357 with 3" barrel and a Crimson Trace grip. It's balanced, concealable and accurate with or w/o the CT.

I'll have to toss in again with what seems to be a recurring theme for the CZ82. Thing hits what I point it at with uncanny repeatability. Wife tried it and found the same. The P64 is pretty good too but DA trigger pull is a bit "stout" and it only holds 6 rounds. Both excellent C&R deals for the price.

There are a zillion S&W Model 10 / M&P .38's in the world, and they work and are accurate, enough so that an exception is remarkable.

Over all, my favorite pistol.

My first gun was a g27 and It was love at first shot. Then I bought another glock and another and by glock #8 I would leave the range underwhelmed thinking "if you've shot one you've shot them all." Bought a couple of hk's and for the price tag didn't do any thing for me so they went to new homes. Wife bought me a ruger sr40c, took it to the range and it had a 15% failure rate. Still waiting to get it back from ruger. Had an xdm 45 in there somewhere and it just didn't have a place here. A lot of money tied up in an xd with a "match" grade barrel.
Yesterday I took a 2 hour drive to take advantage of the SA promo. Picked up the xd essential package for 399. Got the 3in. subcompact. Took it to the range and it was accurate as could be and no malfunctions through its first 250 rounds. It carries well in my galco supertuck, and I love the grip saftey. I have peace of mind now carrying one in the pipe....finally. I know the glock will not go off by itself but still I always had that in the back of my mind.
It turned out to be the perfect gun for ME. I'm accurate with, carry it nice and comfy and have complete peace of mind in condition 1 now. All these things added up and turned out to be the best pistol purchase to date for me.
Have any of you guys bought a pistol and been satified 100% in all your criteria for a gun: comfort, accuracy, saftey, reliability?
G20, Bond Arms Snake Slayer, Springfield 1911 TRP, XD-40 Sub Compact
