I am looking for anyone that might have information about the gunsmith in Clio, Alabama. He was doing a re-barreling job on a rifle on mine and it appears that he has pass away. The phone number to the shop no longer work and emails are not answered. Does anyone know who I can contact about this? I live in Maine so a quick trip there is out of the question.

I'd assume you have his name and address. If you do, you might be able to locate relatives who would be taking care of his estate. Also, the BATFE gets involved when a licensee dies.

I'm sure that Clio is like most small Southern towns. If you call the Chief of Police, he'll probably cheerfully help you out. (Just be sure and DON'T ask him if he's married to his cousin, or anything like that!;))

If he passed away, then the executor of the estate has to clear it up. Everything gets frozen while the debtors are identified and their claims verified. Since it's entered on his books, they know whose gun is there. However, it will take about six months.

Are you talking about Jerry Stockinger? He was in bad health the last time I saw him a couple years ago. He had a young guy that he was training working with him at the time, but I don't know how that worked out.

Yes Gerald Stockinger is the one handling my gun. I have call the Clio Town office and the Chief of Police doe s not return my calls. I have sent emails to the Sheriffs department to see if they can help, of course no reply from them either. I was looking at contacting the BATF.

Well the gun gods have smiled on me. I was just contacted by the Sheriff and the executer of the estate. My gun will be return as soon as he finds it and boxes it up. Thanks for the responses.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. Typically, small town, Southern l.e. officers try to be of help, when possible.
