H-335?

I have a chance to score a couple of jugs of H-335 at a great price.

This is the go-to powder for legions of .223 shooters. Loads are listed for light(up to 150 gr) bullets in 30-30, 308 and 30-06. Lyman also lists a couple of loads for cast gas check bulleds in .30 cal.

Anyone have experience with H-335 in .30s?

Great powder in my .223 for a few loads I have, meters very well as it is a ball powder.

The only downside to it is that it is very temperature sensitive, as in, work up a load in cold temps it will be great but be cautious if shooting that same load after it has been sitting in your truck all day on the dash when its 90 degrees.

I've used the military version, 844, on loads (110 and 130 grain) for my 30-06 and had good results. It has very consistant powder drops with my Redding measure and consequently is easy to use. I've tried it with 150 grain bullets for my 30 calibers with mixed succuss. It wasn't bad, but didn't equal the performance of several extruded powders I use. I'll probably continue to use it on 130 grain bullets.

I load it in 308 winchester as bulk powder on my progressive for my semi-auto battle rifles. 42.5 grains of H335, a Winchester LR primer and a M80 pull bullet (145-150 gr) duplicates South African surplus ammo in my FALs. Meters like water.

25 grains in Lake City brass with a 55-gr projo is the default AR-15 .223 load.

Until TAC came along it was my go to powder for 5.56 loads.
I found it OK for plinking/bulk loads in .308, great metering, just not as accurate as RL15, Varget or IMR 4064.
I never loaded it in '06 or 30-30, but it worked alright in 7.62x54r, decent accuracy, just not a front runner where velocity was concerned..
I don't know what your exact needs/desires are, but if I found a killer deal on some that was reasonably fresh, I'd definitely go for it, it's a good powder.

I have done some hot loads with H335 in .223 and 308, work up to brass destruction.
H335 has the speed - density product to get more power out of 308 or 223 than any other powder.

Being a ball powder, it is a dream to measure, but not as temp stable as some stick powders.

I've reloaded .30-30 with H335.

I don't have my book with me, so I can't recall the charge.

Results were O.K. but I got better results with W748, and am now using RL15.


for .223

25 gr H335 behind a 55 gr FMJ bulk bullet is a very popular load

and my best accuracy load (so far) for my AR is 23 gr H335 behind a 69 gr. SMK.

Can't go wrong with H335 in .223 and it'll get the job done in .30

My 1951 Savage model 99 in 300 Savage still puts 3 shots into 3/4" with H-335 and 165 grn Speer Grand Slam's
and 150grn Sierra Pro Hunters 5 shot groups open up to 1-1/4". Great powder, not too bad in .375 Winchester also, 2" @ 100 yds.

I go through jugs of the stuff. 223 to 308.
I have been shooting 124gr .310 resized to .3085 out of my 30-30 and my 308 with super results. Getting these pulls for $90 for 1000 and WC844 makes for some cheap shooting.

I haven't had near those results with the ones I purchased, but I've been shooting them "as is" from a 59-66 Yugo SKS and a cheap Romy AK clone.

I did try a small batch of H-335 with 150 grain Sierra Flat Point bullets in my .30-30 but the accuracy just wasn't there for me. At 50 yards I was shooting a 2 inch group or maybe just a hair larger. All shots were easily inside a 3" shoot N c target. Group didn't change much with charge weight however the recoil was milder than my other loads. I would shoot it again if I ran out of leverevolution powder.
