Ok, this is a two part post.

1. - I am considering either a USP 9 DAO, or a P2000 in 9mm DAO for my next gun. What is the real difference in the USP 9 and P2000? I have never understood why H&K makes both. There must be an advantages to each model.

2. - I have several Glocks, two SIGs, and two H&Ks. My H&Ks are a USPc.40 and a P7 PSP which shows a bit too much holster wear for my taste. However, I love the P7 as I am quite good with it compared to my other guns.

Question is, should I get a:
USP 9 DAO
P2000 9mm DAO
another P7 PSP
AAC supressor

This next gun would be a fun range gun as I already have a Glock 26 for carry.

The USP has a proprietary rail, while the P2000 uses a M1913-compatible rail. The USP has a slide release only on the left side, while the P2000 has ambidextrous controls. The P2000 also has interchangeable backstraps.

So in your case it comes down to on which side you prefer your slide release level, if the USP doesn't quite fit your hand, and what kind of tac-light, if any, you intend to mount on it. If you already own a Insight Technologies M3 or M6, for example, you probably want the P2000. If you don't have one yet, and are considering buying one, you may want to look at the M2 or "UTL" which is specifically made for the USP's accessory rail.

The M2 has the benefit of an additional on/off switch, unlike the M3 or M6 which only has the toggle switch. This makes the M2 much less likely to activate inadvertently in your pocket, which can be annoying. I carry my M2 as my pocket flashlight regardless of which pistol I may have for that very reason.

I have been very happy with the USP full-size .40 and .45 and would not hesitate to recommend the 9x19mm, as I expect it would be as good.

My understanding is that the USP has a shorter reset with the LEM than the P2000. You ask in your post about the USP and the P2000. Major size difference. Did you mean USP compact vs P2000? If that is what you mean, USPc offers the C&L option and the older, more aggressive style grip. P2000 offers the interchangeable backstraps. P2000 has the 1913 pic rail while the USP uses the proprietary rail. Those are the main differences.

With the regular USP you are going to have a much longer sight radius. Although honestly, if this is for range use only - I would be looking at the USP9SD. That is the USP 9 with match trigger parts. For a pure range gun - you can't get an HK 9mm better than that. (except for an Elite).

I have no plans of installing a light on my guns, so the whole rail issue really isn't a concern.

I love the USP 9 SD but can't justify paying the extra money for not much more of a gun.

My guns under consideration are:
USP 9 fullsize DAO
P2000 9 fullsize DAO
P7 PSP
or I could always do a AAC EVO supressor

I don't have much familiarity with the USP or P2000, but the P7 PSP is fantastic--I have 3 of them.

I don't think I'd recommend it as a range gun, however, due to it's heating up under continuous fire. Since it sounds like you already have a P7, you probably know this.

If you do elect to buy another P7, CDNN can't be beat right now. They have Grade Bs for $599.25 and Grade As for $674.25. My Grade A looks pretty much unfired and uncarried. My Grade Bs have wear on the edges and one of them has a little wear on the right side of the slide as well but nothing too bad.

If it is only going to be a range gun, get the USP9.

If you want to CCW with it, get the P2000, or wait and get the new P30.

The real question is why in the world would you want a double action only anything in a semi-automatic pistol???????

I call these abominations trigger cocker only's because there really isn't such a thing as a "double action only" in the way manufacturers market that term.
It is a sort of, but not quite, oxymoron.

If you already have the USPc
I would suggest a full size 9 over the p2000 for a range gun.

I have 2 USPs one full and one compact. I love the LEM trigger.

I can't own a suppressor so maybe I would suggest getting one of those. What gun would it be for?

I love the USP 9 SD but can't justify paying the extra money for not much more of a gun.

If you can justify the EVO then you can justify the SD. compare the SD price ($875) to the standard usp ($710) + tall sights ($75) + threaded barrel ($250)

If you ever plan on adding a can it's cheaper to just buy the SD.
