I am debating on getting either an H & K P2000 in 9mm or a Para Ordnance 45 acp Carry.:banghead: I have shot the Para Carry and it is a nice gun, it is also a little bit smaller than the H & K but the amount of ammo is greater with the H & K.:scrutiny:  How would you rate both of these guns and which would be better for CCW.

I need help with any info you have on H & K products especially the P2000:cuss:

My wife just picked up a H&K USP compact 9mm and really likes the pistol. Very reliable and the USP can be carried cocked and locked or traditional DA/SA. No problem with factory loads, but my reloads were a little light:eek: so she had a couple stove pipes. My hotter loads were fine. I still have some tweaking to do to get just the right load for the USP, but that's another story. I really liked the Para LDA she was looking at (I'm a 1911 guy), but the USP just felt better in her hand. Gunstore owner seemed to think the H&K had the Para beat on quality.

I really like HK products & I also like poly guns for daily carry...weight and durability. So, that said, I'd go w/ the P2000

Have no experience with HK but do have a considerable amount of experience with Para ...

... and the reliability of their guns isn't something that I feel fully comfortable with.

No experience with Para but I have full confidence in my H&Ks. Feed jams
or stove pipes (while possible with any pistol) have never reared their ugly
heads in my experience with my H&K USP .45 or my USPc .40.

What is wrong with the Para Ordnance

I have a Tac-Four, which I bought for carry purposes. After many, many failures to feed at the range with varied ammo, and sending it back to Para Ordnance twice I have decided to demote it to non-carry duty.
I subsequently found out it isn't uncommon, search 'Para failure' here on THR.
It is still a great gun but I just don't trust it with my life.
Funnily enough, one of the guns I am presently considering to include in my carry guns is the HK P2000SK.

What is wrong with the Para Ordnance? What real_name said! They are good guns but do not work well enough, enough of the time for me to bet my life on them.

You cannot go wrong with either choice IMO. Pick the one that best fits your hand -- you'll be more likely to practice and do well with it.

As for Para reliability, I have three of them and they are prefectly reliable. I do trust my life with them and I'd rather carry them than the Glock my agency forces upon me. One of my Paras I have had since 1993 and it was my only gun for a long time.

That said, if Paras have a flaw it is the magazine springs. I have been using Wolff mag springs in all mine for years and haven't any problems. I even have a couple extended base pad mags (17+1 and 18+1) that run flawlessly.

I have had four Para LDAs

Of them, I had minor FTRB/FTF problems with one. Returned it to Para, they fixed it.

One of mine is a Tac-Four, with a good number of rounds, stock mags/mag springs, zero problems. It sleeps next to me at night; that's how much I trust it.

I just bought an H&K P2000SK

In .40 S&W. Smaller than the USP Compact, it's remarkably accurate and very soft shooting. I bought it because I've never experienced any reliability problems with my H&K USP .40 full size.
I love the 1911 pistol, but I own three of them (none are Para Ordnance products) and two of those three had minor to serious reliability problems which were only corrected after several trips back to the factory and/or a local gunsmith.
I have NEVER had a FTF/FTE problem with an H&K pistol.

OK so H&K seem to be more reliability factor, but it is a MUCH bigger gun. :what: I hate the light rail ( I don't think I'll have a light on my CCW) and how can you hide such a large frame pistol?:scrutiny: Besides IWB, it seems to be limited. I live in Florida and it's mostly shorts and a t-shirt which the Para can hide because it is seems smaller.:fire: How accurate are the H&K P2000?

Take the modern and reliable HK over the 1911 style gun that has each gun magazine in it's pocket. A hundred stupid gun mags GUN OF THE YEAR awards don't amount to a hill of beans.

I carry a P2K all the time, it's my carry gun. It shoots like a dream. If you have the money get one.

I love my Para Carry. Since day 1 when I take it to the range, I pull the trigger and it goes bang. Federal, Magtech, WWB, Independence, Speer, it doesn't seem to care. 100% reliability rate is hard to argue with.

and it carries sooooooo nicely.

The age old dilemma, more rounds or bigger rounds. Which gun do you shoot better and more comfortable with? I shoot great with 1911. I don't think I will be in a situration that requires more than 8+1 rounds and the extra mag in the car. For me I pick a 1911 commander size for carry, just not a Para.

I have had 3 para ord's, all three were 100% reliable. I've only shot an H&K, never owned one because they don't point well for me.

Any manufacturer can make a gun with problems, buy the gun that fits your hand best, and shoot the hell out of it.

HK. Full size P2000 in .40 would do nicely, and very shootable, esp. compared to the .45. 9mm will shoot even nicer. Excellent gun that you won't have to wonder about.

The HK is not that large of a weapon. A full size HK USP? Yes. The P2000, not any larger than most CCW type pistols. The light rail is nice if the gun will ever see "nightstand" duty.

As for hiding a full size gun in FL, it is easily accomplished. You just need a decent IWB holster. I hide a full size Para P14, Glock 22, HK USPC45, etc. under a t-shirt all the time with my Andrews Leather McDaniel II.

HKs are plenty accurate - more than we humans will be able to utilize in a weapon.
