I finally got a chance to shoot the P7, worked up a load that was very comfortable to shoot. What a fun little gun.

Problem is cleaning, since this gun is not produced anymore, I clean and (try) to lubricate it after use. Is there a picture to show me what areas specifically need lube? How about the firing pin assembly how often are you removing and cleaning that?

Try looking at this. I hope it opens. It has some good info. P7M8 armourer's guide, but it is still relevant for the P7.

By and large the P7 is no different than any gun. very thin wipe down all over. Moving parts get a tiny drop. Slide to rails get a bit more or a drop of grease.

The striker assembly stays remarkably clean and requires little lube. I do not remove it every range trip. Maybe every 500 rounds or so.

The piston get a light coat. It gets and stays a bit dirty... only the ring edges need to be clean and lubed. Use a soft brush, no metal.

Lots of pins and pivot points I attack with a needlepoint oiler.

"Lots of pins and pivot points" where are these ? are they under the hand grips?

I read that you should not oil the piston, because it only increases the amount of dirt it collects...

Yes, under the grips, which need care in removing as they are held in place by a screw, the slide and a rimmed edge along the rear grip strap. You remove the slide, remove the screw, pry the top front edge up, out of it's recess, then slide the grip panel to the front, and then off.

The manual says light lube on the piston. It is pretty tight metal to metal movement in there. I've used oil on the piston for years. Maybe some people don't, but I'd rather do it.

The P7 is one gun you should read the manual prior to use IMHO. It's a different enough gun.

care of the piston and cylinder is critical to function.

1. do not use a brush on the piston...it rounds the edges of the rings, which cause gas leakage
2. do not oil/lube the inside of the cylinder...under heat it turns to varnish and clogs the action
3. do not shoot lead bullets...lead clogs the gas valve/cylinder

Use the cylinder scraper and brush. You can use a nylon brush on the piston. I typically haven't lubed the piston, but I've been told militec-1 (a dry lube) can be used without a problem on the piston.
