I took my newly bought hk usp .45 out to the range yesterday to put it through its paces for the first time. I shot 50 rounds of Magtech and 200 rounds of wwb. One magezine failed to lock back once and the other twice after the last round was fired. I've never experienced this before. My other usp has never done this and neither have any of my glocks. Do you guys think I have a gun problem or a magezine problem? Or could it have been those 3 rounds that happend to be the last rounds in the mag. were lite loads and didn't give the slide enough blow back? One mag. did it on the mag tech and the other 2 times it happend while shooting wwb. Any opinions would be greatly appriciated.

It sounds like you might have a magazine problem. I've had this same problem before and changing out the magazines fixed it.

It's not a magazine problem, the slide is just not coming back fast enough/far enough.
New gun, less than max power ammo. Same thing happened when my HK45 was new.
When it breaks in the problem will go away.
Try a firmer grip, more resistance from the shooter will improve slide velocity.

You left out "shooter problem."

Among other things, you could be inadvertently holding down the slide stop.

It must be a factory lemon. I'll help you out and trade you a flawlessly running Hi-Point JHP. I'll even pay the shipping and FFL fees both ways. Yeah, no need to say it... I know I'm a great guy.:D

I am dissappointed I must say. for 200 dollars less I could of got another glock that would of ran flawlessly. I should probly trade both of my over priced polymer usp's for a coulple more glocks.

Hey man... I'm sorry if my attempt at humor was ill-conceived. I didn't intend to make fun of your situation. I was just trying a little levity and let you see there's hope to make your H&K run properly.

Heck, if it just needs break-in then try some +P with 230gr round nose. Or maybe it just needs a thorough cleaning to remove factory gunk and a different lube? Maybe keep the slide locked back for a few days? If that doesn't work then maybe a lighter recoil spring? I'm no H&K expert... just tossing out ideas.

Shouldn't need a break in, even if new. Is it a used pistol? Which mags do you have, the 12 rounders or the 10 rounders? I could easily be wrong without looking at it, but I would think changing out mag springs for some fresh Wolff springs might get rid of the problem. If you know anyone that might let you borrow a USP45 mag, that could help you determine if it's mag related.

Since you have another USP and are not having issues with that one, I would most likely rule out your grip and holding the slide release down. I think the suggestions around trying to run some full power ammo as well as a good cleaning and lube (slide rails, barrel, guide rod and inside of slide where it contacts the barrel and chamber) will most likely address your problems. My USPc 45 only fails to lock back if I ride my right thumb over the slide release. Otherwise, it is 100% and amazingly accurate. Good luck.

Wow, the slightest issue and you're ready to bail?
Glock .45 flawless? not in my experience.
Failure to lock back is nothing serious and will go away.

I'm sure the op found that extremely helpful. ;)

I have never had issue with any of my USP mags, but I have heard from more than one person that sometimes the mag springs are just weak, even straight from the factory. Obviously there's no way to be sure without looking at it, but I'd almost be willing to bet money that your mag springs are not pushing the follower up with enough force to lock the slide back.

The reason I made the comment about the fact I should of save 200 dollars and got a glock is because of the 5 GLOCKS I own and the ten thousand plus rounds I have through them I've never had one issue. I'm just disappointed the the almighty hk would have any type of issue right out of the box. It also had a jam in the first 50 rounds

Sell it and get something else if you don't like it. It sucks to be disappointed in a new firearm, but you're not married to it. Sure, you'll take a little bit of a loss, but it's better than having something sitting in the safe that you know you don't like and won't shoot.

If you rack the slide with an empty magazine does it lock back? If so i would suspect either limp wristing or weak ammo in a tight new gun.

"If you don't like, sell it." I've been there several times. It's how I learn.
Not locking back? Lessee, tighter grip, cleaner mag. stronger spring, bent lever. Keep playing with it, It will work out.

The USP is a 2x4 compared to the H&K greats like the P9 or P7. Sorry couldn't resist, my USPc is cheap compared the P9. Hell, the Ruger SR9 feels better in the hand than my USPc.

To the OP, new tight gun, burn through about 300rds and pay attention to your technique. I had a Ruger MkII not lock to the rear because I was limp wristed.

Your right Jason G. I won't be happy with it. I can't help it, its something about me and guns. If I buy a new one and it messes up in any way fresh out of the box I give up on it. If I buy a fire arm for self defense purposes and it doesn't "act right", even if its a small issue I give up on it. I remember when I took my wifes pt709 slim out for the first time it was a jam o matic and was gone the next monday. I traded it for a ruger sr9c that had a cam lock pin falling out of the frame its first day out....needless to say it was gone the next day. I think thats why I'm a glock "fan boy" I've never had a issue with one of them.....trust 'em I guess.
