Any of you out there tried both? I have another itch to get a USP this time. Im not sure if I want .45 or 9mm. Also havnt decided if to go compact or full size. Basically I want it for plinking around and IDPA use. I used to be a big 9mm fan because its cheaper to shoot, but since I started reloading last week Im a .45 fan again. I already have the Sig 220-c3 .45 and a 1911 .45 as well as a P229 9mil. I am leaning to .45 full size. Any recomendations from HK fans out there?

I can only tell you my experiences with the .45F. It was very reliable, but it's big - couldn't keep a good grip on it after a couple shots, and I'm not small. Recoil seemed more noticeable than from a 1911.

I agree with fletcher, the USP is a big gun, particularly the .45. I have a compact .357 and it is much more comfortable in my hand.

It depends on your hands. I have small hands, so the USPc is more comfortable. However, I shot more accuaretly with the fullsize 9mm USP I used to own.

ive had both the usp f and usp c 45. both are big. both were reliable and accurate.

i liked them both ok, but found the fullsize awkwardly big...even for my large hands. the compact seemed to fit my hands much better, but only held 8 rounds. seems like it should hold more considering its size.

i found myself always comparing my usps to my 1911's. i sold my usps.

Me, I like both, have owned both, but I prefer the fullsize USPs -- and I don't have big hands  I have almost 50,000 rounds between my USP 45 & Expert 45 and cannot be happier w/ their accuracy, reliability and ease of operation.
By the way, I currently own 3 USPs -- a 45, a 9 & the Expert & really love them all ;)

My USPc .40 carrys well, is accurate, and sexy - I mean reliable : )

The recoil in my .40 USPc is less felt than my bro's S&W .45 Cal (457) about the same size weapons.

Highly recommend P 2000 with LEM trigger AND trigger pull reduction kit (a couple of springs that take it to 5.5 pounds). Excellent ergonomics, excellent reliability, and a very good weapon for concealed carry.
Stay safe.

Full size a great gun

I have the full size USP 45 and the compact 40. For your application, which does not include CCW, I would go with the full size USP 45.

I have owned mine for about 7 years and find it to be accurate and reliable, with very solid construction for a polymer frame gun. It fits my hand well and the recoil is not at all objectionable. Once I became accustomed to the trigger, I found that I could shoot it as well as my 1911 Colts.

I have the USP in both the full size and the compact, both in .40. The gun was designed around the .40. If it isn't going to be for carry go with the full size. It also gives you the option to add a jet funnel and go with higher capacity mags.

Either way, any caliber, the gun is a pure winner.

Have you thought about waiting for the P30 or the HK45? Maybe that's an option also. Notwithstanding, I have shot, but don't own, the USP .45 and love it. Grip is great for my hands despite the large size, because although the grip is large, it is not wide IMO like some of the newer grips are with backstraps/palmswells and sidestraps. I have a S&W M&P and the large palmswell feels a little fat after shooting for awhile). The problem is the finger reach for those with shorter fingers (if the pistol is held correctly...;) ) The grip is textured to my liking, like the recoil and sight radius. Also, if it's not for CC, and you want it for plinking and comp shooting, go big/long.
