I recently got my CCW permit and I am looking for something for regular concealed carry. I have a full size 9mm and a H&K USP 40 full size and they are both pretty bulky and heavy for regular carry. I believe I have narrowed down my choices to either the SIG 239 or a H&K USP Compact in 40cal. I need some help deciding which way to go. Any input would be appreciated.

Well, I recently had this choice to make and I went with the 239.....my decision was based partly on the fact I have a couple glock compacts and the HK is similar in size to them, so I went with the single stack sig.....I had just been wanting to get another sig anyway, and I found a great deal on a used 239....I can't really give you any reasons to get one over the other, comes down to personal preference of two great guns;) .
.......tom

I've got both! Find myself caring the HK when I use OWB holster and use the Sig with an IWB holster. Shooting wise I prefer the HK for the extra rounds and I've a variant 1 which allows for 'cocked and locked" carry. Also the HK edges out the Sig in accuracy. Perhaps the grip fits my hand better. You will not go wrong with either piece. They both will serve you well.

I carry a P239 in 9mm and love it.It has a grip that some people with larger hands might not care for but it's capable of very, very good accuracy if you are.

They'll both go bang, I'd go for the one that fit my hand best and pointed naturally for me. The 239 and 245 are the only member of the P series that really don't feel very good in my hand, so I sold my 239 and went with the 225. My hand doesn't matter though, your hand does. Get what fits.

Both are fine pistols. You couldn't go wrong with either. That being said, the only solution would be to get one of each.:D

Cmans solution is the best but I would go for the P239 in 9x19 for your requirements.

had both , liked the 239 far better ...

just ordered an h&K p200 v2 9mm . as well...
we'll see if its any improvement ...

Have both, like both, I shoot both equally well, but tend to carry the 239 more, it's just more concealable for me. As noted, go with what feels best to you.

FWIW, IMO, a more apples/apples comparison would be the USP9C/SIG P228.

Thanks for all the replies guys. With the two guns I'm looking at, there really isn't a wrong answer I guess. With both being top notch quality, I guess it comes down to the "touch & feel test".

A dealer near me has a USP Compact 40 used but unfired for $500. Is that a good deal?

That's a great deal. I bought my used USP compact 9 for $599.

I'll personally take an HK over anything.

Another vote for the HK because I carry one daily, but, both are very fine pistols and will do you well.

Go for the better feel between the two. Accuracy can be worked on as part of shooter skills development. I love my .45 Compact. :D

Well I went ahead and took the plunge. After handling both of them I decided to go with the H&K. The ergonomics were a bit better for my hands and the $500 price was an added bonus. Now off to the range to test it out. :D

I know this is a little after the fact but I just wanted to throw in another vote on the side of the Sig P239. Don't get me wrong I think the USP is a great gun and I congragulate you on picking up such a fine machine. Amoung my many other guns I have a full size USP in .45 and a Sig P239 in .40 S&W. Its my undstanding that the compact USP is a double stack just like its big brother. I love my USP for its feel but I have to say that I find the single stack design of the Sig 239 much more comfortable for IWB carry than any double stack pistol I have encountered. As for OWB when wearing a jacket I would prefer my USP. As for accuracy, I actually find myself shooting better with my Sig than with my USP. In fact my Sig is as accurate for me as my 1911 is.
