I,m a long time hunter, shooter and own many diffrent firearms especially in 45. acp. Among the contenders are a Colt Defender xse which i shoot most often, a Glock 36, a Ruger P90 and P97, and a SigSAUER P245. Recently though ive been thinking about purchasing either an H@K USP full size or compact 45. . I guess my question is which is best and what are the major diffrences? I know the compact holds 8 and the usp holds 12, but my gunstore seems to have the full size in stock so i can never seem to get a comparison of the 2. Is the grip really big since it does hold 12 rounds I wish i knew. Can anybody help?

I had a fullsize USP in 9mm, and I still have a compact 9mm USP now. I shot the fullsize a bit more accuratey, mainly because of the longer sight radius I believe (I never shoot compact guns as well as the fullsize version, and it isn't always because of the grip - the compact USP has a fullsize grip).

The fullsize grip was a bit too big for me, however. Too blocky. I have smaller hands. The compact fits my hands much better (the grip isn't quite as thick in the 9mm version).

Both can be cocked and locked w/ the frame safety. So, that's pretty much the only difference...

Well, I tell you the USPc in 45 with the extended mag floor plate fits my hand like they were meant for each other! I have Hogue Handall on the USPf, and it too feels good in my hand! I think they are the ultimate compliment to JMB! They are accurate, hearty, and a great gun!

I have nearly 30K through my USPf and around 6 through the USPc. It is one ragged hole accurate in my hands out to 50 ft without trying! It is one of the most accurate guns I have owned. It just goes bang all the time! No muss and no fuss!

Go w/ the full size version. The differences are going to be in dimension, recoil system and price...(compacts tend to be roughly $50 more than fs). Me, I have both and prefer the fullsize. Maybe because I learned to shoot using a larger grip, but the fs grips just fit me better.

I have had both. Finally traded the full size because of my small hands, and it was just too big to carry.

The .45 Compact is perfect for me in all respects.

I wear it in a belt holster, with the shirt out, and have no problems with carry.

Thanks For the help

I have medium size hands I would say. So thanks to all of you i do belive I am going to get the full size usp.

The full-size has the full recoil reduction system, the compact has a sealed captive spring. So the compact is only going to run like 50,000 rounds before you need to swap out the part. :)

That will be the day when any of the keyboard kommandos actually wears out a gun! Heck look at most USPf 45ACP for sale, shot only 100 rds, or less then 250. For most of the keyboard kommandos of the first chairborne regiment they will not come even close 5 percent of 50K down the tube. The USP is a testament to a well engineered and rugged hand gun for the people that actually go shoot their guns. I have close to 30K through my full size USP. It seems more accurate then when I fist got the gun! For me it is the best 45ACP auto I have owned so far, and I have owned plenty of 1911's. For out of the box the USP has no peers, for money it has no peers, about the only complaint is the cost of mags vs. 1911. But, then that is made up by not having to spend money with a gunsmith to make the 1911 right to begin with!:neener:

Hahaaaaa! That was a funny post. So where in the manual does it say that compacts will only shoot 50k rounds before the guide rod and recoil spring will disintegrate? Ok, I'm being sarcastic, but really. I'll be that new tactical compact .45 HK is making will do better than that...

The full size actually doesn't seem to have that big a grip to me. The Springfield XD .45acp seems to have a grip that MIGHT be marginally smaller. Or maybe it's slightly bigger, I'm not sure. Both have a smaller grip than the glock 21. None of them have a grip as slim as most single-stack 1911s or a Sig 220.
