Id like to say thanks for letting me be part of an awesome community. Im looking for input from people who have owned a usp compact for at least six months.
I recently picked up a usp compact in 9mm. Shortly after bringing the gun home, I was surprised to see that if the slide is locked back and you slam a loaded mag in, the slide would automatically release forward and a round is chambered. I jumped online right away and discovered that nothing was wrong with my gun. Heres whats messed up though. From everything I read, it actually sounds like its pot luck whether or not your usp will do this. Some people are frustrated because they cant get their usp to do this, while others including me wish it didnt function this way. I also read that H&K modified something to try and prevent this but werent successful. I strongly agree with one persons opinion who said he doesnt want his gun doing anything he didnt tell it to do. An experienced shooter knows not to have his finger on the trigger when reloading, but still.. think about it. Plus it takes away the fun of engaging the slide release after reloading. So I appreciate you reading this. Heres what Im looking for. If you own a usp compact in any caliber, please state your caliber, and inform me of whether or not your slide automatically gets released forward if you slap in a loaded clip. You dont have to slap in in hard enough that it hurts your palm, but it has to be somewhat forceful and quick. When I made the discovery, I never thought the gun would do this, so i wasnt hitting it in overly hard for any reason. Also if anyone can suggest anything or confirm for me that changing the recoil spring will resolve this, that would be great. I heard wolff springs and hkpartsonline are great resources for parts but the truth is all the links Ive found online for parts are really bad. Please help! Thanks! I currently own two Berretta 92FS's (one blued/one stainless) and two usp compacts (one 9mm and picking up the 40 S&W next week). Thanks!!!
