I have a Snake Charmer that was made in Dallas, Taxes. SN# 23344. This was given to my father by Mr. Koon who was a friend. My father gave it to me around 1981. My question is, is this shotgun set up for 2.5" or 3" shells. All I have used is 2.5" 410 # 6. Could I use slugs or buck shot in this shotgun?

Whatever you do don't break the stock. Replacements are nigh impossible to find and 2x the cost of the gun :/

We keep this Charmer in the boat as there are a lot of snakes in southeast Taxes. As I get older we keep our Snake Charmer close by to shoot snakes in the yard. We are surrounded by forest. Snakes and Gators.

I wouldn't use a slug. Most older .410s are full choked. I have a Snake Charmer. I believe mine is only slightly newer than yours (22yrs), and I believe new ownership. But I do know it's full choked. I found the Winchester 3 inch buck to be useful for big stuff. Other than that I like 2 1/2 inch for everything else. The three inch shells donut the shot a lot. For smaller stuff (raccoons and under for me), 21/2 works fine. That 3 inch load will work for larger. Can't say I've taken a Gator with that 3 incher but it has dropped stuff I won't mention. Nice thing about that little single is that you can put what you need in the stock and find a sleeve for a few other varieties. I have found to have on hand #4 and #9 on hand all the time. Don't know what your immediate problem is there in Texas but a #4 or Winchester 3 Incher with buck will do a lot.

We just use for snakes and very small critters. Just pulling your leg about shooting gators. It is against the law to shoot gators in Texas. We do have them from time to time, just call game warden and they will come and retrieve them and relocate . The Snake Charmer is a great shotgun when used for it's name sake.
