I just came back from my FFL, collecting a rifle purchase and he showed me his diminuitive "H. Pieper" single shot .22. Quite new to me, I am always interested in history, and so this little rifle fascinates me. The stock is junk now... I mean junk. Has a half dozen nails holding the remnants together. He was lamenting on the fact that he couldn't get anyone to make a new stock for him (especially for a $50 rifle), and so I offered to carve a new one for him (I manufacture Stock Carving Duplicators). I am not really in the stock carving business, but do it as a help to fellow collectors if the need should come up. Anyone else need a exact replacrment Peiper? Also, can someone tell me about this little rifle? Thanks, Lee

Henri Pieper was born around 1840 and later moved to Liege Belgium where he made more than a few types of rifles with his failing block single shot actions.
He was also involved in Belgian military rifle manufacture and I believe he invented some sort of system that reduced gas loose in revolvers. I also think he invented or at least patented an early type of stripper clip ( CHARGER) for early bolt action rifles.

You would have to show a photo of which type you have, because he also had a rolling block type design with multiple bores inside one big barrel.

Also something that looked like a trap-door Springfield type action with a 22 caliber bore.

Plus a neat little falling block action which sorta looks like a Browning 1885 from a distance.

His company also made little Martini action rifles. I suspect under license.

You occasionally find some older double rifles and drillings made by his company in the late 1880s and 1890s.

In a German museum I saw one of his rifles that had a weird chamber area that opened up and swung out above the action on a big bail system. It was very odd looking. Almost like a Gorsch Beer Bottle top.
