I have a H&R 929 22 revolver,4" barrel, made in 1974. it doesn't say side-kick on the barrel and only says 22 cal. most of the stuff I read about it says 22LR but a 1964-5 ad for the 929 states 22 long rifle, long and shorts, I want to shoot shorts in it, will that cause a problem? I was wondering about the conflicting info.........

No problem, as the young folks like to say---you can shoot shorts in that thing all day long---just clean trhe cylinder from time to time.

Have had one since 1973,...many many shorts....long rifles,..longs,..cb's through it over the years. What jyo said,..shoot away,..clean the cylinder now and then,...you'll be fine.

thanks guys, just wanted to be sure before I took a chance and messed something up. I took it out yesterday and shot about a half box of LR and a half box of shorts through it and it worked great, was shooting at targets about 35 yards away and was surprised at how accurate it was, I'm gonna really like this little gun. ..... and I did clean the cylinder and the rest of the gun when I got home.....thanks again guys......

I have h&r 929 side kick and the hammer will not hold when i try to cock it. The main spring looks good. if i hold the sear out with a tooth pick it will hold. is this a broken
sear spring or sear? where can i get the parts and how hard is it to put in?

DJ, check Numrich Gun Parts for a diagram and to see if they have what you need.

In fact here's the schematic.

If the sear that sits behind the trigger is not returning it may either be rusted, grunged up from fouling or dried up old oil or grease or the spring that is supposed to return the sear is missing, broken or jammed by rust or dried old grease or fouling.

Your first step would be to strip the gun and clean and check it over using the schematic I gave the link to. If you're not comfy working on your own guns then take it in. It may well just need a thorough cleaning since it's not like it's some Spring Chicken that is shiney new and squeaky clean at this point.

Best of luck with getting it going again.
