This was Granpa's revolver which I just recently liberated from a closet from my Mother's house. It's much happier now.:D

It's a .22 caliber 9 shot revolver. The left side of the barrel says Model 929 H&R Inc. Worchester, MA, and the right side of the barrel says SIDEKICK. IT looks like a 6" barrel.

It doesn't say anything about cartridge length, and I'm wondering if I can shoot .22 LR and .22 short (with proper cleaning between, of course.) Also, if anyone knows the value, that would be nice too, but it's never going anywhere. (See line 1)
Thanks,
RT

Yes, you can shoot .22 long rifle and .22 short. A model 929 in excellent condition is worth about $90. (Very good-$75; good-$60.) It was made from 1956-86.

I have a 1963 929 and am having a issue where it hits the top of the cartridge and don't always fire and have checked the spring what else can I do

Have you tried more than 1 type of ammo?
A good cleaning may help also, if you haven't already done it.
If there is dirt, or other build up, it won't allow the cartridge to fully seat, and when the firing pin hits the rim, itmay allow enough movement to prevent a solid strike on the primer.
A couple of many possibilities totry any way.
Good luck.

Bought a new one of these "back in the day," and while fire-fighting with the US Forest Service, dry-fired it too much, causing peening on the chambers (the firing pin was integral with the hammer, with no hammer block per more expensive revolvers). I carefully reamed out the offending obstructions and stopped dry-firing. ITM, it was always accurate and reliable, if slightly eccentric in styling.

Sold it to a fellow firefighter from NYC (my first gun deal!) at double my cost....so that gun has always occupied a soft spot in my heart!

i bought a 929 back in 73...after many. Many many rounds, it started experiencing light strkes. Suggest you remove grips and check the hammer rebound spring pin. Would almost be willing to bet it has a nylon/plastic pawl that is broken. Check with Numrich, they have a good schematic, and may have the parts.

Agree with Thunder about the plastic piece, the replacements work much better and usually solve the light strikes. The older H&R revolvers were well made, accurate, and reliable. D/A pull was a little heavy but alright for a working gun. The Sidekicks were good holster guns and worth the money.

If you look around you can still find grips, holsters etc. They were many a young mans first handgun in days gone bye. They are still a value today, and yes you can shoot all those shells you mentioned plus birdshot. If you have the box add $20.00 to the less than $200.00 price they usually sell for.
