Hey shooters, I have an old H&R 929 side kick that's been passed down to me. Fun little gun to shoot, but whenever I shoot it, i have to aim at the bottom of the rather tall front sight, and then aim up. Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions if so? Thanks for advice.

I don't know about the 929's, but on the 999's there is a screw that adjusts the height of the front sight to raise or lower the poi/poa.

Not sure what sight picture you are using? If you put the top of the front sight even with the top of the rear sight and hold that picture at 6 o'clock on your target.....Where does the slug hit?

Remllez- If i aim with top of the front sight and top of the rear sight, standard sight picture, and aim at the middle of the target it hits 7-8 inches low. Jeepnik- I'm not sure if the sights are adjustable. I'll have to check

First off I'd lay a good foot long metal ruler you know is straight along the barrel at various radial positions and check to be sure the barrel isn't bent. Then I'd pull out the cylinder and check the bore for leading.

I've got my own 929. It has a fixed front sight. But my own version shoots nicely to POA with basic Blazer and CCI Standard Velocity ammo.

One other thing that will make a revolver hit low is if you are using very light and high velocity rounds. Perhaps try some of the 40gn bullet Standard Velocity rounds that come from various makers. If it turns out that the barrel is straight and clean and if it still shoots low for you AND some other known good shooters then you can consider shortening the front sight to bring up the POI to match the POA. Go slow and be sure that it's not you and how you hold the gun and pull the trigger. It's tough putting the metal back on if you're not sure.

BCRider-It does have fixed sights, and it was me, my dad and uncles(all who are good shots) shooting it and having the same problem. We were using light rounds like you mentioned (forget brand, but were pretty low almost shorts in power) because it's an old gun and hadn't been shot much. I got a brick of federal 40 grainer standards here, give them a shot next time i shoot.

If the 40 grain standard velocity doesn't work for you, BC has the best remedy. A fine file and check your progress frequently. I believe rcmodel has posted a very precise way of filing that front blade down.

I would check my progress on a rest of some kind to limit shooter error. That gun will be banging em out for a long time once you get the sights regulated. They are fine holster guns and can take hard use.

If you were using shorts or longs, as opposed to LR's, then all bets are off and you can expect the sights to not be accurate. The sights are set up to work with LR rounds. I think you'll find that the gun shoots fine with the SV .22LR's.

Thanks for all the help. I'll try the 40s and if they don't I'll file it down. It was bugging me that it wouldn't hit Point of aim, like that little gun

Mine has a rear sight adjustable for windage, removed the sight blade, traced on a suitable piece of steel and increased the height. Lots of filing but it was worth the effort - shoots much closer to POA, but need to make another slightly higher.

Took me a while, but I finally got it out and shot it. With the full powered loads it's still not a target gun, but on enough that the soup cans don't stand a chance(which is good enough for me) Thanks for all of the help
