Years ago, I had a Sportsman 999. It was a lot of fun, but the DA pull was hideous. Today, after going to the range, I handled a 929. It seems to be essentially the same gun as the 999, but with the cylinder swinging out to the left instead of the breaktop ejection.

So I tested the trigger (not letting the hammer drop because it's rimfire), and it was amazingly smooth and light (relative to my earlier 999). Is this characteristic of the 929, or has this little revolver been worked on?

The 929 is probably a little better to shoot. All the top break H&R's I have ever handled were very heavy in the trigger. The 929 was a less expensive gun, but shot much better than the price would indicate. They listed from $110 to $135 depending on finish and grips, in the mid 1980's.
The 999 listed for about $185.
