H&R 999 topbreak question

I bought a H&R 999 in 22lr, 6" barrel. Good gun, late manufacture date with a serial number of AY and the transfer bar. Looking for a little help please.

When ejecting the empties the ejector pulls the brass from the cylinder fine. When all the way open I have been told that the ejector should snap back into the cylinder. Mine doesn't it just stays out until I bring the barrel back around to close the gun. Is this right?

Usually I just give it a little shake at an angle and all the brass falls free. I then push lightly on the cylinder and it springs up to meet the extended ejector. I reload it and close it. It looks like it works fine this way.

My second question is how easy the cylinder comes off the post. It just basically lifts right off. Is this right?

If the cylinder just pulls off, your cylinder latch is probably worn.
I have put a little more bend to them before, and it helped, but you probably just need to replace it.
Numrich gun parts has these, they are reasonable, and not real hard to replace.

Oh yeah, the ejector should snap back on it's own.
Try a Good clean and lube job.

I have one identical to yours. Try putting some Mil-Tec on the raised brass extractor rod, work it several times and see if that helps, NOT a lot! It might just need cleaning. To remove the cylinder, mine had a small button in front left of the cylinder, press this button in and the cylinder will slide right off. With the cylinder off, you can spray some cleaner inside the bottom of it, also with it off, you can clean with a cotton swab, the tube inside where the cylinder will re-fit, apply just a tad bit of Mil Tec with a clean swab inside this tube and you're done. Hope this works.

I would just take off the grips and soak it in some kero or diesel for a day or two. Loosen all the gunk up and then clean it. I've done this with a handgun or two and results are amazing.

You might also get on Wolff Springs web site and see if they have new springs for your revolver. If you bought used, might not hurt to have this done. Get smithy to replace the springs, get it oiled {Mil-Tec'd} and you're off to the races! Good Luck
