Sights for Buffalo Classic 45/70
Could someone recommend a good aperture sight for the 1871 Buffalo Classic. Mine has the Williams and it doesn/t have enough elevation adjustment and it cannot be adjusted without a screwdriver. I had rather not have the tang type but would like something like a ladder type sight that could be easily and repeatably adjusted for different ranges. Is there such a critter that doesn't cost more than the rifle?

Unfortunately, the Fool Proof Williams won't do anything that the 5D will for elevation adjustment.

Go too www.montanavintagearms.com.
They may have a sight with a base that can be drilled to match the screw hole pattern on your NEF.

The difference between the Foolproof and the 5D is that the Foolproof is positive-click adjustable while the 5D requires a screwdriver. Either one will privide more leeway than the Williams Guide that comes standard on the rifle. The question is really, IMO, whether or not the Foolproof will give enough elevation for the desired distance. If not, another sight may do the job better.
